Summary:

The Lab Manager is a senior operations role responsible for overseeing all aspects of laboratory operations, including staff management, quality assurance, and client relations. Reporting to the General Manager, Operations Manager or Director this role ensures efficient, compliant, and profitable laboratory operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

What you will be doing:

  • Operational Leadership
    • Manage laboratory operations, ensuring effective client service, security, housekeeping, human resources, safety, quality, and environmental practices.
    • Oversee documentation, training, and enforcement of laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and policies.
    • Maintain a safe and professional laboratory environment, addressing issues that impact operations or client relations.
    • Manage area budget, forecasting, and financial performance while achieving annual goals.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Contribute to fiscal management by preparing capital and operating budgets, evaluating performance, and implementing corrective actions.
    • Review non-routine work orders to ensure profitability and laboratory capability before assignment.
    • Approve timesheets, vacation requests, absences, and purchase requisitions in line with company policies.
  • Client and Quality Management
    • Ensure timely and effective handling of client requests, including follow-up communication to resolve issues. Review and respond to Customer Review Forms to address concerns and improve service quality.
    • Report, review, and authorize test results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to laboratory staff, delegating tasks and supporting achievement of operational goals.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Support staff development through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance
    • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Officer on non-conformance investigations and accreditation requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and relevant accreditation bodies (CALA/SCC/CEAEQ).
    • Oversee method validation, SOP development and revisions, and instrument calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Strategic Collaboration
    • Assist corporate management with strategic initiatives and operational planning.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to align laboratory operations with organizational goals.


What you bring to the table:

  • Experience: 5+ years of laboratory analysis experience with a strong background in method validation and laboratory SOP management.
  • Education: Post-secondary degree in science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Proficiency in EPA and Standard Methods, with experience managing laboratory accreditation and QA/QC procedures.
  • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in the use, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.

The anticipated salary for this position will be: $60,000- $95,000 per annum.
