Founded in 1977, PCR Business Finance (PCR) is a private, non-profit, Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), as certified by the U.S. Treasury and a Financial Development Corporation (FDC), which administers the State of California’s Small Business Loan Guarantee Program (SBLGP). The primary mission of PCR Business Finance is the generation of community economic development through the delivery of financial, educational and advisory services to any small business in need.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced senior underwriter to evaluate and structure small business loans while balancing strong credit standards with our mission of supporting underserved entrepreneurs. This role is responsible for analyzing borrower financials, recommending loan structures and preparing credit memos that align with organizational credit policies, program guidelines and community impact goals.

The ideal candidate has strong small business underwriting experience and the ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite small business loan applications, including working capital loans, term loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, and commercial real estate loans.
  • Analyze business and personal financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and collateral to determine creditworthiness.
  • Conduct cash flow and debt service coverage analysis.
  • Structure loan terms: including amount, pricing, collateral, and guarantees.
  • Prepare credit memorandum for loan committee approval.
  • Collaborate with loan officers to evaluate new lending opportunities and structure deals.
  • Ensure loans comply with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements and program guidelines.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of small business or commercial loan underwriting experience at a comparable non-profit organization or conventional bank.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong financial analysis and credit underwriting skills.
  • Experience reviewing business tax returns and financial statements.
  • Ability to prepare clear and well-structured credit memos.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound credit judgment.
  • Strong business development and relationship-building skills.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in credit analysis.
  • Proficient in financial analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with SBA 7(a) or SBA lending.
  • Experience working with a CDFI, community bank, or mission-driven lender.
  • Experience lending to minority-owned, women-owned, or underserved businesses.
