Apprentice Garage Door Service Technician at Wayne Overhead Door Sales and Home Improvements – Centerville, Ohio

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Apprentice Garage Door Service Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of garage doors for both residential and commercial customers.

As part of our service team, you will work on a variety of projects—including remodels, new installations, and service repairs—so each day will bring new challenges and learning opportunities. You will have direct interactions with customers across our service areas, making strong communication and customer service skills essential.

$18 - $22 hourly plus bonuses

• Install, service, and repair commercial and industrial garage doors and operators
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and recommend effective repair solutions
• Perform preventative maintenance on a wide range of commercial and residential door systems
• Safely install and service rolling steel doors, sectional doors, high‑speed doors, and dock equipment (as applicable)
• Read and interpret work orders, technical drawings, and product specifications
• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, office personnel, and management
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites at all times
• Adhere to all company safety procedures, industry regulations, and quality standards
• Accurately complete service documentation, reports, and required paperwork

• Solid understanding of electrical wiring, connections, and basic circuitry
• Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools
• Strong communication, active listening, and teamwork skills
• High school diploma or GED required
• Strong math skills and the ability to accurately measure and problem‑solve
• Previous experience as a commercial garage door technician or installer preferred
• Proven mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools and equipment
• Basic electrical knowledge related to door operators is a plus
• Ability to lift heavy materials, work on ladders, and perform tasks at heights
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with a team
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship
