About This Position
Position Summary
The Field Technician supports the Construction Department by performing installation, repair, and onsite service tasks that require proficiency with small hand tools, light carpentry, basic flooring installation, small patch and painting work, and other general labor duties. This role delivers high-quality, detail-oriented work while following safety standards across a variety of construction environments. The Field Technician supports the Service Department by driving the roads for the night rides and supporting the planned maintenance/service requests.
Key Responsibilities
Tool Use, Light Carpentry, Flooring & Paint Repair (Primary Focus)
- Safely operate small hand tools including tape measures, utility knives, levels, drills, hammers, wrenches, and cutting tools.
- Perform light carpentry tasks such as cutting, measuring, drilling, fastening, and assembling materials.
- Install resilient flooring, LVT, and carpet tiles, including layout, trimming, adhesive application, and finishing.
- Perform small drywall patches, including cutting out damaged areas, installing patch material, applying joint compound, sanding, and preparing surfaces for paint.
- Conduct basic painting, including touch-ups, wall repairs, small surface areas, and blending to match existing finishes.
- Prepare and finish surfaces according to project specifications (cleaning, smoothing, priming).
- Maintain and safely use tools such as rollers, brushes, paint trays, scrapers, trowels, and sanding tools.
Field Service & Construction Support
- Assist with material handling, staging, site prep, and cleanup.
- Identify issues such as misalignment, substrate defects, or surface imperfections and correct or report them.
- Follow instructions, work orders, and installation guidelines precisely.
- Support additional construction tasks as needed.
Road Service
- Drive on the roadway to support maintenance and service performed
- Conduct monthly night rides
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures.
- Wear required PPE (gloves, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toed boots).
- Participate in daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
- Work safely around equipment, tools, adhesives, chemicals, and construction activity.
Communication & Digital Documentation
- Document completed tasks using digital apps, checklists, and forms.
- Take quality photos of flooring, patching, painting, and carpentry work.
- Communicate material needs, site conditions, and project delays promptly to supervisor.
- Maintain professional communication with team members, clients, and contractors.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability using small hand tools
- Basic carpentry experience
- Ability to perform small drywall patches and painting
- Experience installing resilient flooring, LVT, and carpet tiles
- Ability to read measurements and follow layout instructions
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and reliability
Preferred
- Construction, flooring installation, roadway or maintenance experience
- Familiarity with commercial installation standards and painting fundamentals
- OSHA 10 certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
