Summary/objective:

The Chief Strategy and Impact Officer (CSIO) leads Shalom Austin’s efforts to strengthen community engagement, social impact, and Jewish life across Greater Austin. The CSIO oversees Jewish Family Service, Community Engagement, Public Affairs, and Community Impact initiatives, ensuring programs and partnerships address evolving community needs while advancing the organization’s mission.

As a member of the Senior Executive Team, the CSIO guides implementation of Shalom Austin’s strategic plan, builds strong relationships with community partners and civic leaders, and ensures that Shalom Austin’s work is impactful, collaborative, and responsive to the community it serves.

Essential functions:

Community Impact

  • Define and execute a cohesive vision for Shalom Austin’s community impact initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Lead implementation and ongoing evaluation of Shalom Austin’s strategic plan, ensuring initiatives advance measurable outcomes and organizational goals.
  • Use data, metrics, and community insights to evaluate program effectiveness and guide decision-making.
  • Collaborate with community partners, agencies, and institutions to expand Shalom Austin’s reach and deepen engagement across the Greater Austin Jewish community.
  • Identify emerging community needs and guide Jewish Family Service in developing responsive programs and partnerships that strengthen the Jewish and broader Austin community.

Executive Oversight

  • Provide executive leadership and oversight of Jewish Family Service (JFS), ensuring programs meet community needs while maintaining operational excellence, financial sustainability, and mission alignment.
  • Oversee the Engagement team, strengthening pathways for community members to connect with Jewish life through meaningful experiences and initiatives.
  • Lead Public Affairs efforts, in civic and interfaith spaces while advancing advocacy and community relations priorities.
  • Oversee Community Impact functions including grants and allocations, ensuring resources are distributed strategically to strengthen the broader central Austin Jewish community partners.
  • Guide initiatives that deepen Jewish peoplehood and community collaboration locally, nationally, and globally.
  • Partner on Shalom Austin signature events and initiatives, collaborating across departments to ensure alignment with community impact goals.

Leadership and Operational Management

  • Supervise leadership across Jewish Family Service, Engagement, and Public Affairs functions, setting clear expectations while mentoring leaders to foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Executive Team, contributing to an integrated leadership approach and maintaining an organization-wide perspective on Shalom Austin’s strategy and success.
  • Represent Shalom Austin in the community at a senior professional level, strengthening partnerships with civic leaders, institutions, and community organizations.
  • Establish and manage departmental budgets, monitor financial performance, and adjust strategies to achieve mission and impact goals.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, Jewish communal service, social work, education, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience with demonstrated success overseeing community programs, managing budgets, and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in Jewish communal leadership, social services, community engagement, or philanthropic grantmaking preferred.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with ability to develop budgets and align program metrics with organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and represent Shalom Austin to board members, donors, and the community.
  • Passion for Shalom Austin’s mission and enthusiasm for Jewish community life.
