Job Description



We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Senior Administrative Assistant for a temporary assignment (less then 6 months) to support our MPO office. Although this role is temporary with no benefits included, it will provide valuable exposure to public service operations and the opportunity to build your resume with meaningful government experience. Successful performance may lead to consideration for other County opportunities as they become available.


Who We Are: The Charlotte County-Punta Gorda MPO was established by the Governor in 1992. As a result of the 1990 census, The Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte urbanized area was determined to exceed 50,000 in population, triggering the requirement for an MPO. Activities of the MPO are funded from state and federal sources along with a small local match. Charlotte County-Punta Gorda MPO is one of 27 MPOs in Florida and one of about 340 in the nation. MPOs are required by federal and state law in areas with a population of 50,000 or more.


The ideal candidate will possess clerical and office skills, with experience in handling front desk responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Manage front desk duties, including greeting visitors and handling multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette
  • Perform data entry, filing, and document proofreading to maintain accurate records
  • Utilize Microsoft Office for document creation, editing, and communication
  • Assist with calendar management, scheduling appointments or meetings, preparing agendas, conducting roll call, and managing meeting logistics
  • Provide exceptional customer support and respond promptly to inquiries
  • Support office management tasks such as organizing files, processing paperwork, and maintaining office supplies
  • Support various administrative projects to improve office efficiency and organization

  • Prior office experience with clerical duties, data entry, and administrative support preferred. Government setting a plus, but not necessary.
  • Data entry, answering phones, printing, typing and customer service.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in customer service roles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking, sitting, hearing, seeing up close, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions. Dependent upon position assignment, may occasionally lift 10 to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.

RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONS

The position requires no exposure or risk related to physical and/or mental health and safety.
