About This Position

The Park Leader works approximately up to 35 hours per week, Monday – Sunday, and holidays at an assigned Montclair outdoor park site. Program time may vary from morning; afternoon and evenings Assignment will be a 17-week program, May 18 – September 10, 2026. This is an hourly position offering no supplemental employee benefits other than salary, and sick leave accrual as per the Healthy Workplace/Healthy Families Act of 2014.


Under direction, the Park Leader assists with monitoring and enforcing the proper and safe use of the Splash Pad and City parks, which includes being stationed at the Splash Pad and ensure proper attire of participants, observing and maintaining proper use of the play and park area; assists with enforcement of City ordinances and park rules and regulations; acts as a public information source; opens and secures the Splash Pad; collects and disposes of litter; empties garbage cans and changes trash liners; cleans and stocks restrooms; prepares daily logs and activity reports; may assist with other summer playground programs, community programs, special events, and sports activities, and general assignments at various recreation facilities; assists staff with various responsibilities; takes the initiative to promote, coordinate, supervise, and/or participate in all activities; ensures the safety and welfare of all participants; and performs related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.; possession of First Aid/CPR certification prior to start of the program and have the availability to work up to 35 hours per week, Monday through Sunday and holidays.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; lead physical education activities that may include running, jumping, or throwing a ball. This position requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, twist and reach; to lift, carry and handle equipment, desks, and boxes without assistance; and to provide visual and auditory supervision of children. The ability to participate in activities with youth indoors or outdoors such as to walk, run, bend, pull, push carry, load/unload supplies, lift up or move up to 50 lbs. Must be able to assume postures to allow physical and visual contact with children and communicate, see and hear well enough to keep participants safe. The position must be able to function well in a noisy, busy environment that includes the comings and goings of students and their parents. Work requires supervising students and leading activities outdoors sometimes in damp, cold, and hot weather.
