The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) is currently recruiting for the position of Permit Technician I to fill one (1) upcoming vacancy in the Plan Review Division of the Community Risk Reduction Department. This recruitment will be used to fill this vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

CLASS SUMMARY:
Under supervision, incumbents are responsible for performing a wide variety of administrative functions, including plans processing duties, as well as providing assistance and answering general questions from design professionals and the public.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Permit Technician I is an entry level position in a three level Permit series. The Permit Technician I is distinguished from the Permit Technician II, which handles more complex plan processing duties and performs simple plan reviews. Work of increasing difficulty and complexity is assigned based upon experience acquired and familiarity with the work.

Permit Technician I Classification SpecificationAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Possession of, or successful acquisition by time of appointment, a valid Class C California driver’s
This classification is subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program, which periodically provides Risk Management with the incumbent's Driver License record and status.
Highly Desired Qualifications (not required):
- International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certificate
- Plans or permit processing experience
- Two or more years of general clerical or office assistant experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class may typically require climbing, balancing, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents work in a standard office environment.

PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
Before an employee is hired, he/she must successfully complete pre-employment requirements including, but not limited to fingerprinting and background check, reference check, DMV check, licensure/certification check, Oath of allegiance to the United States of America and the State of California, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States in accordance with Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986. All job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam including a drug screen through the OCFA's designated physician.

INITIAL SELECTION REVIEW:
The Human Resources Department reviews all initial application materials to identify qualified applicants. Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to the first phase of the recruitment process. The OCFA reserves the right to refer only the better qualified applicants if the number of applicants is high. If the number of applicants is high, the review process may include a secondary screening (by a panel of job knowledge experts) of the applications and/or supplemental questionnaires in which the better qualified applicants are referred to the next phase of the recruitment process. ELIGIBLE LIST:
The duration of an Eligible List for this recruitment is one (1) year, unless abolished by the Human Resources Director prior to the expiration.
WITHDRAWING FROM THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
