About This Position
Overview: Mid-West Forge is looking for a detail-oriented self-starter to join us for an internship within our Human Resources Department. This person will work closely with the HR Department on a wide range of activities and projects. Our HR Intern will collaborate and work in all areas along with our HR team, including recruiting, benefits, engagement, onboarding, HRIS, training programs, communications, and various other activities assigned. We welcome strong communicators with exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to multi-task while working either independently or collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides specialized expertise in one or more human resources functional areas and assists in generalist responsibilities throughout the department.
- Contributes to projects and programs of diverse scope relating to HR functions.
- Assists in organizational development and change that supports key business objectives.
- Observes and promotes adherence to all ethical standards.
- Apply continuous improvement measures and methods for creating efficient HR administrative processes.
- Practices ownership of recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention.
- Social Responsibility/Event Planning - team member recognition programs, community outreach/philanthropy, and other events.
- Markets employment opportunities to target audiences via social media.
- Run various metric and data reports that are presented in weekly meetings.
- Track progress, deadlines, and priorities of any assigned projects.
- Maintain a satisfied level of customer service with clients both internal and external.
- Adhere to all the safety rules and regulations.
- Other related tasks as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
- Current pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Human Resources preferred (or in a business field, preferably with an HR Minor)
- At least two years of undergraduate coursework completed.

- Ability to draft, create or consolidate companywide communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to confidently interact with all employee types across levels within the organization.
- Ability to effectively report and present relevant data and job specific information as needed.
- Able to provide high quality customer service through phone calls, email, and face to face interactions.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic to intermediate mathematics.
Computer Skills:
- Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to the use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks and other systems where applicable.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Physical Demands:
- Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 5-10 lbs.
- Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels while within manufacturing plant.
- Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
Work Environment: The HR Intern will be stationed in our Administrative Office building but will often times be required to patrol, audit or collaborate on projects inside of our onsite manufacturing plants. These areas contain historic machinery, robots and shipping lanes. Work within the plants usually involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. There are high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation within each department which can cause noticeable vibration and airborne disturbances.
