About This Position

Description:

The Fitness Coach will provide supervision and instruction to members in the Wellness floor by listening actively, strengthening relationships, and promoting healthy living with YMCA members. The Coach is responsible for effective delivery of wellness coaching services to clients. The Fitness coach's role is crucial in motivating, guiding, and instructing clients to help them achieve their health and fitness goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. The ability to listen to the questions and needs of YMCA members and take ownership in responding back to the member.
  2. Possess sensitivity and patience in dealing with the inactive population of which may have a poor self-image and could be intimidated by exercise and workout areas.
  3. Empower members to develop confidence and continually motivate throughout their Fitness experience at the YMCA.
  4. Possess knowledge of wellness concepts, in order to promote a well rounded healthy lifestyle.
  5. Committed to their own healthy lifestyle and exercise program for good role modeling.
  6. Conduct one on one appointments with YMCA members.
  7. Educate YMCA members on exercise principles and other wellness related areas.
  8. Supervise YMCA members’ workouts by working the floor and giving constructive feedback for maximum fitness gains.
  9. Foster member engagement by introducing them to various staff members and fitness services, such as group exercise instructors, floor staff, personal trainers, and specialized programs like BoxMaster, Regymen, etc
  10. Provide continuous feedback and guidance to YMCA members.
  11. Coach and encourage YMCA members to meet their own determined wellness goals and to continue with their program.
  12. Contact YMCA members through personal phone calls, post cards or email when appropriate.
  13. Resolve any and all issues or conflicts YMCA members may be experiencing.
  14. Track fitness appointments weekly and monthly and follow-up with members who need additional guidance
  15. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
  16. Must be punctual for all shifts.
  17. Wear appropriate uniform, staff shirt, name tag and clothing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in fitness related fields, are preferred. College courses related to anatomy and physiology or related experience are accepted.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Must have knowledge of weight room equipment, cardiovascular equipment, and general strength training principles.
  • Nationally recognized certifications are accepted, i.e. ACE, AFFA, ACSM. CPR/AED and First Aid are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
  • May be required to walk, stand, kneel, and stoop.
  • Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications.

An offer of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements for the position. They may include a background check, drug test, driver’s license record, CPS, and/or Criminal Background check.

Additional driver’s license check, CPS, Criminal Background check, alcohol and/or drug testing may be required to be processed in the future in order to meet and maintain the minimum requirements of this position.
