Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Creative Arts, which houses the Design program at Wheaton College,
seeks an instructor to teach DES 298: Designing Architectural Spaces for the Fall semester. The course is scheduled to run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:20 from Sept. 1- Dec 11th, 2026 and will serve 10-15 students.

Course Description
This course teaches principles and methods for considering human experiences in built environments and how form and materials affect experiences. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are taught as students assess, measure, make and plan prototypes, addressing access to and use of spaces. Students develop the ability to assess conditions, consider environmental and material properties and apply design principles to create accessible and effective prototypes and plans. Instruction includes sketching, model-making and basic digital design tools to depict and communicate ideas clearly and effectively. Prerequisite: ART 112: Three-Dimensional Design or permission of instructor.

Minimum Qualifications:
MArch and 2+ years professional experience or a BA, BS, or BArch in Architecture or related field and 4+ years of professional experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience is preferred but not required.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $5,000/course.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate.
