Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer with a dotted line report to the General Manager, responsible for mentoring, developing, and training all Finance Department employees on compliance issues. Complies with all Federal, State and Tribal regulations as directed by all governing agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Responsible for assisting Department Manager/Supervisors in developing, implementing, and enforcing rules, regulations, procedures, and policies within the Accounting, Auditing, Cage, Purchasing, Drop Team, and Soft Count departments.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and gaming regulations.
  • Monitors financial policy to ensure the ongoing success.
  • Works with Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of and submission of the Annual Budget to the Enterprise Board and Tribal Council.
  • Reviews the monthly department financial and audit reports for accuracy.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and prepares a report for the Board, on a quarterly basis, regarding trends in revenue and expenses.
  • Conduct analysis for maximizing revenue, reports regularly on the cash status of the company, and conducts cost of goods sold analysis to track performance of various departments within the Casino/Resort.
  • Investigates, documents, and resolves audit findings.
  • Provide direct supervision for those positions involved in the Cage, Soft Count, Drop Team, Purchasing, Auditing, and Accounting Departments.
  • Supervisory duties include the following: assign, coordinate, review work, establish schedules and priorities, as required to accomplish work load; arrange for or provide orientation and training of Cage, Soft Count, Drop Team, Auditing, and Accounting Managers/Supervisors; evaluate work in progress and discuss problem areas; recommends personnel status changes, evaluates employee performance, approves leave, identifies and recommends disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Provides Guidance to other staff in detecting reoccurring problem areas within the overall accounting systems.
  • Ensures compliance with required policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and internal controls within the Cage, Soft Count, Drop Team, Auditing, Purchasing, and Accounting departments.
  • Maintains appropriate long-term balance in bank accounts and makes telephone transfers as necessary.
  • Held accountable, to a very high degree, for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
  • Prepares and files tax returns for the property; prepares condensed financial statements for the Tribal Gaming Commission.
  • Works with the independent auditors of the company and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) announcements.
  • Acts as a liaison to all other departments with respect to financial questions.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of management and fund accounting, finance, and business administration.
  • Knowledge of the standards, policies, practices, and procedures of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards.
  • Knowledge of Title 31 and training.
  • Knowledge of the development, preparation, and control of budgets.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

  • Must complete the Food Handler’s Training instruction online and obtain the Food Handler’s Certificate within 90 days of employment. The Certificate must be updated every 2 years.
  • Must complete the Arizona Title 4 BASIC Liquor Law Training class and obtain the Certificate of Completion within 90 days of employment. The Certificate must be updated every 3 years.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed in an office and Casino setting with exposure to second-hand smoke and a high noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field plus eight years accounting experience five of which must have been in a management capacity; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master’s Degree, CPA and Gaming industry experience preferred. Must be 21 years of age. No felony, theft or stealing convictions. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
