Job Description
Position Summary:
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services to residents of the community. This role supports resident independence, engagement, and quality of life by assisting with scheduled outings, appointments, and community events while ensuring safety and compliance with all applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely transport residents to and from medical appointments, shopping trips, religious services, and community outings
Assist residents in entering and exiting the vehicle, including use of mobility aids (walkers, wheelchairs, etc.)
Ensure all passengers are properly secured with seatbelts and follow safety protocols at all times
Maintain a friendly, respectful, and patient demeanor when interacting with residents and families
Follow established routes and schedules while remaining flexible to accommodate resident needs
Conduct daily vehicle inspections (fuel, tires, lights, cleanliness) and report any maintenance concerns promptly
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle interior and exterior
Complete transportation logs, mileage records, and incident reports as required
Adhere to all state, local, and company driving regulations and policies
Communicate effectively with staff regarding schedules, delays, or resident needs
Support emergency response procedures when necessary
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Previous experience working with seniors preferred
Ability to operate wheelchair lifts and secure mobility devices (training provided if needed)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Patience, compassion, and professionalism when working with elderly residents
Ability to follow directions and maintain confidentiality
Physical Requirements:
Ability to assist residents with mobility, including pushing wheelchairs and supporting transfers
Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
Good vision and hearing for safe driving
Work Environment:
Primarily operates community vehicles (vans, buses, or cars)
Exposure to varying weather conditions
Interaction with residents, families, and healthcare providers
Additional Expectations:
Uphold the community’s mission, values, and service standards
Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and accountability
Maintain a safe and respectful environment for all residents
