Role Summary:

To lead and manage all shop employees, as well as, direct and oversee all work performed in the shop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable all dismantlers, technicians, and shop help. This will require effective communication and the ability to teach, train, and motivate all shop employees, as well as leading a daily huddle and a weekly meeting.
  • Direct all vehicle scrapping and tear down activity, especially removing parts for resale. This requires a knowledge of diesel engines, medium duty trucks/buses, and general mechanics. It also requires a working knowledge of shop tools and practices and a willingness to learn company-specific software.
  • Direct the recycling and scrapping of materials including steel, copper, batteries, aluminum, rubber, and any other related materials. This requires learning how to identify and organize materials by type/grade and maintaining working relationships with material processors.
  • Direct all shop safety, organization, cleanup, maintenance, and regulations. This includes conducting monthly training and certification for all dismantlers/shop help.
  • Oversee diagnostic testing on all types of vehicles and equipment. This will require proficient knowledge of diesel and gas engines, as well as heavy/medium duty trucks, buses, and trailers. This also requires learning company software and scanning equipment.
  • Oversee scheduled maintenance and repair work of company vehicles and equipment. This will include medium duty trucks, buses, semi, flatbed, front end loader, forklift, skid loader, and other equipment. This may also include vehicles or engines for re-sale.
  • Perform all service-writing tasks for contracted service work including preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and the repair/replacement of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension components, fuel systems, electrical systems, and others. This will require the ability to source and order parts, communicate with customers and technicians, and write work orders and sales orders.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Operations. These may include attending trade shows, visiting customers, organizing the warehouse, delivering parts, performing general maintenance, etc.
  • Actively participate in weekly, quarterly, and annual leadership meetings with the goal of helping other department leaders, and the company, improve. This includes offering regular suggestions on methods and practices for business improvement when experience and common-sense dictates.

Qualifications:

  • 2–5+ years of experience in automotive industry with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Proven ability to manage daily operations, including scheduling, inventory control, and staff supervision
  • Strong leadership skills with experience hiring, training, and coaching employees
