About Beacon Kalamazoo
Beacon Kalamazoo provides 24/7 emergency care and a Level II Trauma Center. We deliver care for serious life-threatening injuries/illnesses, and your everyday health needs, including labor and delivery. We offer specialty care for heart/vascular disease, lung and sleep disorders, mental health conditions, and women’s health. We offer a wide range of outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging, lab tests, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation therapy services.
What You’ll Do
As a Patient Care Assistant, under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, you may be assigned a variety of duties designed to assist with the direct care of the patient. This may include assisting patients with activities of daily living and supporting nurses in completing orders and locating shared equipment within the hospital. You will provide timely and efficient completion of these tasks. Interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively and relate politely to patients, visitors and fellow staff members.
Patient Care Assistant Job Responsibilities
- Must be able to successfully complete orientation/training programs for the position as evidenced by completion of competencies.
- Must be able to work effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and promote collaboration and a positive work environment.
- Must have computer skills to be able to enter and retrieve patient information.
- Performs and assists with therapeutic and procedures.
- Observes and records pertinent information, consults with and reports significant reactions and changes in patient condition to the appropriate Registered Nurse.
- Responsible for ensuring that the patient's pain is reported to Licensed Nurse.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- A minimum of six (6) months experience with direct patient care is preferred.
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

As a Patient Care Assistant, you bring the ability to assist with activities of daily living. You have the knowledge to monitor vital signs, help transport patients, provide medical support tasks and assist with environmental and safety duties. You have the ability to document and communicate with the care team and patients.
