Catastrophe Modeling Manager at American Agricultural – Schaumburg, Illinois
About This Position
AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance solutions, is seeking a Catastrophe Modeling Manager to work out of our Schaumburg, IL office. This will be a hybrid role working in the office a minimum of three days a week.
As part of the Actuarial team at AmericanAg®, the Catastrophe Modeling team works directly with internal stakeholders and Farm Bureau® clients to evaluate catastrophe risk and its impact across the (re)insurance value chain.
In this hands-on leadership role, the Catastrophe Modeling Manager will be responsible for leading and managing a team that completes all aspects of catastrophe modeling services to our Farm Bureau® clients. This role provides a unique opportunity to apply your catastrophe modeling expertise across both insurer and reinsurer perspectives.
The Catastrophe Modeling Manager will be responsible for:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of catastrophe modelers that provide catastrophe modeling services to our Farm Bureau® clients
- Providing expertise for all aspects of catastrophe modeling, including scrubbing data, reconciling data, creating pro-forma data modifications, loading data files, running the catastrophe models, completing sensitivity and ad-hoc analyses, and interpreting and presenting results to our Farm Bureau® clients
- Ensuring that modeling is completed to support Farm Bureau® reinsurance placements and incorporated into our reinsurance portfolio modeling
- Delivering assumed reinsurance portfolio modeling analytics to our Farm Bureau® clients as well as modeling reports required for rating agencies
- Ensuring modeling aligns with the latest best practices and actuarial needs and objectives
- Assisting with the configuration and testing of the internal portfolio management platform to support new models, model frameworks, and process automation
- Responding to internal and external modeling questions, modeled results, and troubleshooting issues
- Traveling and attending Farm Bureau® conferences to present relevant modeling information, model changes, and reinsurance placements
- Providing in-depth analyses and coordinating with actuaries and external brokers on validation studies for new or updated models
- Supporting the company’s event response services by providing modeled loss estimates after catastrophic events
- Utilizing the internal portfolio management system to model reinsurance structures and automating recurring reports
- Providing reinsurance cost allocations for clients utilizing standard or adjusted catastrophe models
- Attending catastrophe modeling conferences to understand latest trends and upcoming model changes and communicating those model changes and updates to stakeholders
What you will bring to this position:
- 7+ years of catastrophe modeling experience with RMS and AIR models
- People management experience, including coaching, mentoring, training, and developing employees
- Extensive experience working on primary insurance company datasets and modeling deliverables
- Advanced proficiency with SQL and Excel, along with a working knowledge of GIS tools
- Knowledge of insurance/reinsurance, coverage, and contracts
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Ability to identify, address, and resolve complex challenges and opportunities
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to research problems in different ways, analyze potential solutions, and create solutions
- Understanding of actuarial reinsurance pricing practices and concepts
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $145,000-$190,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus.
