Job Description: Crane Operator
FLSA Status: Hourly Non-exempt position
Benefits eligibility: 60 days after hire date
Full Time
Reports to: Foreman
Job Purpose: Operate crane equipment safely, productively and efficiently to lift, move, position, and place construction materials and equipment at assigned locations to accomplish construction site objectives.
Job Duties: • Operate crane equipment to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment. • Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation. • Interpret load charts and verify load weights prior to lifting operations. • Coordinate lifting activities with signal persons, riggers, and crew members. • Follow site lift plans and operational procedures. • Maintain, clean and report equipment issues to ensure proper functionality. • Ensure operation of crane equipment to the highest OSHA and safety standards. • Perform cleanup duties around work area. • Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience required. Valid crane operator certification (NCCCO or equivalent) required. Minimum two years’ experience operating crane equipment in a construction environment preferred. Strong knowledge of load charts and rigging procedures. Attention to detail, initiative, and reliability required.
Physical Demands: Ability to sit for extended periods, climb ladders, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must maintain constant visual and auditory awareness while operating equipment.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:
Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to extreme weather conditions. The work is performed outdoors on the jobsite where the employee will be exposed to extreme heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment can be extreme on the jobsite.
