Laborer/Flagger in Hudson Falls, New York at Peckham Industries

Job Summary:

The Laborer / Flagger supports asphalt paving and roadway construction operations by performing general labor duties and maintaining safe traffic control around active work zones. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safety of crew members, motorists, and pedestrians while assisting with paving, site preparation, and cleanup activities.

Essential Functions:

1. Protect family and friends. Maintain a safe and compliant work zone by properly directing traffic and using approved flagging procedures.
2. Committed to serve. Support efficient paving operations by assisting with asphalt placement, raking, shoveling, and compaction activities.
3. Efficiency. Help ensure crew productivity by preparing work areas, moving materials, and keeping tools and equipment ready for use.
4. Safety always wins. Reduce safety risks by setting up, maintaining, and removing traffic control devices according to site requirements.
5. Dedication. Contribute to a clean and organized job site by removing debris, cleaning work areas, and properly storing materials.
6. Respect and engage. Promote clear communication by coordinating with crew members, equipment operators, truck drivers, and supervisors.
7. Obligated. Support regulatory and company safety expectations by following all safety policies, PPE requirements, and work zone procedures.

Requirements, Education and Experience:

1. Previous construction, paving, flagging, or roadway work experience preferred but not required.
2. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
3. Flagger certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
4. Ability to work variable shifts and long hours, including nights and weekends if needed.
5. Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
6. Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
7. High school diploma or GED preferred.
8. Authorized to work in the U.S.

Travel:

Position may require up to 100% travel by personal vehicle to project locations throughout the state of New York Massachusetts, and Vermont based on the needs of the business.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Heavy work that includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more. This position works outdoors in most types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other inclement conditions. This position works near moving mechanical parts, active roadway traffic, and loud equipment. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, walk, sit, reach, balance, drive, and perform repetitive motions. The position also requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to maintain visual awareness of surroundings for safety purposes. Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
