Season: February 10, 2026 to December 4, 2026
Pay: $19.25 per hour for H-2A workers
Estimated Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week. Estimated schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with possible changes based on seasonal needs.

Bailey Nurseries is seeking production workers for the Plant Health area for the 2026 season. This position is for individuals with experience related to plant care, application of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, use of agricultural or nursery equipment, and maintaining plant health in production areas.

The person hired will support plant health activities, including monitoring for pests and diseases, applying products, maintaining equipment, assisting with irrigation systems, and recording information. The ability to speak, read, and write English fluently is required in order to read labels, safety instructions, reports, records, and communicate effectively during work.

Primary Responsibilities
The person hired will be responsible for supporting Plant Health activities in nursery production areas. Responsibilities may include:

  • Apply fertilizers to plants according to formulas or instructions provided by the supervisor.
  • Mix, load, and apply pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides to trees, shrubs, or other botanical crops.
  • Follow safety instructions, application practices, and product labels to maintain plant quality.
  • Clean and maintain equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Monitor plants to identify insects, diseases, and other pest pressures.
  • Participate in ornamental trials, including trial applications, data recording, and evaluation of results.
  • Report information related to plants, growth, and production conditions.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of irrigation equipment and climate control systems.
  • Assist with directing weeding crews when needed.
  • Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, pickups to move sprayers, and self-propelled machinery.
  • Use or receive training to use equipment such as sprayers, tanks, air blasters, backpack sprayers, four-wheelers, hand wands, and Raven spray monitors.
  • Perform irrigation activities.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with applicable ODA and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain safe work practices at all times.
  • Work periodically with the crew, organize tasks, and prioritize application or spray activities.
  • Perform other general nursery duties as needed.

Important Requirements
To be considered for this position, the candidate must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • Have at least 6 months of work experience in the activities described in this job posting.
  • Be able to speak, read, and write English fluently. Required.
  • Be able to meet certification or licensing requirements related to the application of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or other Plant Health products. The employee has 90 days after hire to pass the test in English.
  • Meet applicable driving requirements, as the job may require driving pickups, tractors, machinery, or self-propelled equipment.
  • Be able to pass a background check.
  • Be able to lift up to 60 pounds when needed.
  • Be willing to work outdoors and in extreme weather conditions.
  • Be able to perform activities that require extensive pushing or pulling.
  • Be able to sit, walk, or move around for extended periods.
  • Be able to stoop or bend frequently.
  • Be able to perform repetitive movements during the workday.
  • Be able to receive and complete annual pesticide safety training under the Worker Protection Standard required by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
  • Be able to maintain accurate records in accordance with applicable ODA and OSHA laws.
  • Have the ability to work with the crew periodically, organize tasks, and prioritize application or spray activities.
  • Be available to work for the entire season.

Additional Information
Housing and transportation and is provided by the employer for non-local workers who qualify under the H-2A program.
