Lead Systems Engineer
Lead Systems Engineer role working with MBRYONICS to bring the next generation of Free Space Optics (FSO) into reality. As a Lead Systems Engineer you will lead the requirements management, integration and realisation of complex, interdisciplinary requirements, taking responsibility for the successful delivery high-performance and flight-ready hardware.
The Role:
- Lead the development and execution of design and validation plans for complex hardware and software systems.
- Define and lead the execution of test cases to validate system functionality, performance, reliability, and usability.
- Approve and oversee comprehensive reports that communicate design and validation; provide expert analysis of performance against requirements to resolve critical issues.
- Drive technical excellence by staying at the forefront of industry trends and methodologies, while leading the continuous improvement of systems and validation processes.
- Technical lead for systems component identification, specification, and selection for aerospace/space deployment.
- Lead specification efforts to relevant ISO/IEC/JEDEC standards, with specific reference to NASA/ECSS, including the integration of new and emerging standards.
- Ownership of power and communications link budgets for critical (sub)systems.
- Lead the development of (sub)systems from initial prototype through to aerospace-qualified products.
- Collaborate as the technical lead with interdisciplinary mechanical, embedded, photonic, and optical teams to solve for mechanically and thermally constrained environments.
- Lead systems development for Design for Manufacture, ensuring technical feasibility at scale.
- Act as the lead technical liaison for sponsors, contractors, and satellite bus manufacturers for requirements collection and design conformance.
- Direct the documentation and technical review of design, test, and validation of (sub)system designs.
- Lead the specification and verification of complex systems for tenders, bids, and ongoing projects.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to design engineering and test teams across a diverse range of disciplines.
Who you are:
- Lead-level technical experience in space, software, aerospace, or defense sectors.
- Significant proven industry experience with a track record of leading technical delivery for successful space or aerospace missions.
- Advanced experience in system design and the expert application of systems engineering practices.
- Deep expertise in ECSS/NASA standards and their practical application to design, integration, and validation processes.
- Advanced familiarity with Agile development methodologies and technical leadership within a SCRUM framework.
- Expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the application of complex model simulation tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Python or other scripting/software environments to automate validation and verify complex concepts.
- Comprehensive experience with typical design and manufacturing test equipment/systems.
Desirable:
- Subject matter expertise in radiation-hardened component selection, derating, and space-grade custody and testing practices.
- Advanced capability in developing complex electrical, thermal, and noise models.
- Direct experience leading satellite integration and environmental testing (TVAC, Vibration, EMI/EMC).
- Leadership experience within ISO 9000 series quality assurance systems.
- Advanced knowledge of best practices in Design for Manufacture.
- High-level understanding of software internetworking and distributed systems design.
- Expert-level familiarity with engineering software (e.g., ANSYS, Altium, Zemax, Simulink) and orbital design tools (e.g., STK, Matlab, Basilisk).
- Proven technical leadership in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
