Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Microbiology Supervisor and the technical guidance of a Medical Technologist performs a variety of routine and specialized CLIA Waived diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood and body fluid specimens as prescribed by physicians or healthcare providers in the technical area of Microbiology/Serology. Processes and analyzes all specimens submitted for clinical analysis by performing CLIA Waived tests, reporting results to appropriate personnel, and maintaining instrumentation utilized.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
MLT or MT student enrolled in an Associate or Bachelors Degree program in Microbiology, Biology, Basic Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science.

Experience
Must have begun a clinical rotation in Microbiology or other clinical Laboratory Department.

Licensure and/or Certification
No license required. The incumbent must be enrolled in a MLT or MT program.

Skills
Must have the ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies.
Requires knowledge of basic laboratory methods and Microbiology principles.
Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment. Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens, calibrate equipment, etc.
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Good knowledge of quality control principles.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, outside agencies, vendors and fellow staff members.
Computer proficiency required.
Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
