POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reports To:
    • OB Nurse Manager
  • Summary:
    • Employee is primarily responsible for the assessing the needs and caring for patients in OB during labor and delivery. Employee will be responsible for educating patients about post-partum and infant care needs. Employee also cares for infants in the nursery. Employee should have good communication and critical thinking skills. Employee normally performs the duty assignments using methods and procedures at his/her discretion and limited only by policies set by administrative or legislative authority. Total end results determine effectiveness of job performance.
  • Work Schedule:
    • Must be able to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays, sometimes in excess of 40 hours per week.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Education
    • ASN, BSN, Diploma Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Experience
    • One to two years of related experience
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
    • Must exhibit basic computer knowledge
  • Certificates & Licenses
    • Current registration with the State of Indiana is required. Certification in BLS and neonatal resuscitation required.
  • Other Requirements
    • Math skills to calculate dosages. Ability to multitask. This position requires frequent standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, lifting and carrying 0–100 lbs and pushing and pulling 0–100 lbs.
  • Essential Functions
    • Demonstrates the ability to accurately assess patient status in accordance with current policy.
    • Demonstrates competency in clinical procedures performed on the specific nursing unit.
    • Recognizes and identifies critical changes in patient's status which require immediate action.
    • Completes written nursing care plans which include, an individualized plan with identified problems and/or specific nursing diagnosis based on assessment data; nursing goals and a discharge plan; and nursing interventions designed to achieve the nursing goals and discharge goals.
    • Promotes continuity of patient care by adhering to care plan devised by co-workers.
    • Evaluates patient's response to intervention provided by self or other health care team members, updating and modifying the care plan to reflect changes in patient's condition.
    • Incorporates patient/family teaching as part of professional practice.
    • Collaborates with other members of the health care team concerning the patient discharge plan to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
    • Communicates effectively with members of the health care team.
    • Manages patient care assignment effectively, including care provided by the CNA and LPN.
