Position Summary

The Store Lead plays a key leadership role in supporting daily store operations while serving as a mentor and resource for Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) and Loaders. This position combines exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and hands-on leadership to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for both customers and team members.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, dependable, and eager to lead by example. The Store Lead helps train and develop team members, supports inventory and yard operations, and assists customers with product selection and solutions. This role offers an opportunity to grow leadership skills while contributing to the success of the store and customer experience.

Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
  • Serve as a mentor, trainer, and resource for CSRs, Loaders, and seasonal team members.
  • Assist with employee training, coaching, and performance monitoring.
  • Lead by example by promoting teamwork, accountability, safety, and excellent customer service.
  • Open and close the store.
Customer Service & Sales
  • Deliver exceptional customer service in person and over the phone.
  • Assess customer needs, answer questions, and recommend products and solutions.
  • Develop expertise in Kurtz Bros. products and their applications to confidently assist customers.
  • Process customer orders accurately for pickups, deliveries, and special requests.
  • Follow up with customers as needed to ensure satisfaction and resolve concerns.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve store operations, product offerings, and customer experience.
Equipment Operation & Yard Management
  • Safely operate front-end loaders, forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment as required.
  • Load customer vehicles and commercial trucks efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain organized stockpiles and assist with material movement throughout the yard.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance, including greasing, fluid checks, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard, warehouse, and store environment.
Inventory & Store Operations
  • Assist with inventory management, product labeling, and stock organization.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support customer demand.
  • Pull, stage, and transfer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Keep shelves, displays, bagged products, and hardscape materials organized and properly stocked.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies and operating procedures.
  • Immediately report and document incidents, accidents, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain safe equipment operation practices at all times.
  • Support a culture of workplace safety and accountability.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and seasonal overtime as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of retail, customer service, sales, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in the landscaping, construction, building materials, or related industry preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with customers and coworkers.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize company software and operating systems.
  • Ability to learn product knowledge and recommend solutions confidently.
  • Experience operating loaders, forklifts, skid steers, or similar equipment preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
  • Exposure to equipment noise and other industrial environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials as required.
