Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Game Engine Engineer based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership role focused on shaping the core architecture of a next-generation cloud-based game engine powering advanced simulation, modeling, and operational systems. You will play a pivotal role in defining how the engine evolves to support large-scale, real-time, and AI-enabled environments used in high-stakes decision-making contexts. The role blends deep systems engineering with architectural ownership, requiring you to influence both immediate product execution and long-term platform strategy. You will collaborate with simulation, AI, and platform engineering teams to ensure the engine remains performant, scalable, and extensible as complexity grows. This is a highly cross-functional environment where your decisions will directly impact the usability, efficiency, and capability of the broader platform. You will act as a technical force multiplier, raising engineering standards and mentoring other engineers across multiple teams. The work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge game engine technology and mission-critical simulation systems.
- Define and lead the technical vision and architecture of a large-scale cloud-based game engine supporting simulation, AI, and modeling workloads.
- Design and evolve core engine systems, frameworks, and developer tooling to enable scalable and efficient cross-team development.
- Own architectural decisions across runtime systems, performance infrastructure, editor/tooling ecosystems, and platform scalability.
- Drive high-impact technical initiatives that improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity across the engine.
- Lead complex cross-team engineering efforts, aligning stakeholders and delivering solutions from concept through production.
- Partner with simulation, AI, and platform teams to ensure engine capabilities meet evolving product and research needs.
- Establish engineering standards, architectural principles, and best practices across the engine codebase.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing to elevate overall team capability.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, scaling bottlenecks, and architectural constraints before they impact delivery.
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform investments to maximize system health and engineering velocity.
- 9+ years of professional software engineering experience in systems, game engines, or performance-critical platforms.
- Proven experience owning architecture and technical direction for large-scale engine or infrastructure systems.
- Deep understanding of game engine fundamentals such as rendering, ECS, data-oriented design, tooling, and runtime systems.
- Strong track record of leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives from design through execution.
- Experience optimizing performance, scalability, and reliability in large and complex codebases.
- Ability to define engineering standards, conduct architecture reviews, and influence cross-team technical decisions.
- Strong systems thinking with the ability to evaluate long-term tradeoffs and platform investment strategies.
- Familiarity with modern engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience shipping and maintaining complex live-service or continuously evolving systems.
- U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract requirements.
- Competitive senior-level compensation aligned with U.S. market standards for game engine and systems engineering roles.
- Fully remote work environment with collaboration across distributed, high-performing engineering teams.
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge simulation and cloud-based engine technology at scale.
- Equity participation in a fast-growing, well-funded organization.
- High-impact technical ownership with significant influence over architecture and platform direction.
- Access to complex, meaningful engineering challenges at the intersection of AI, simulation, and real-time systems.
- Strong engineering culture emphasizing excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Opportunity to collaborate with domain experts across engineering, AI, and simulation disciplines.
