Job Description

Contract Technical UI/UX Designer - Video Games

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contract Technical UI/UX Designer - Video Games based in United States.

We are seeking a Technical UI/UX Designer to help create engaging, intuitive, and immersive user interfaces for interactive entertainment experiences.
This role combines creative design expertise with technical implementation skills, working at the intersection of art, engineering, and player experience.
You will bring interfaces to life within Unreal Engine, ensuring they are visually compelling, functional, accessible, and optimized across platforms.
The position offers the opportunity to influence how players interact with game worlds through thoughtful layouts, animations, and responsive systems.
You will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and artists to deliver polished UI experiences that enhance gameplay and immersion.
This is an ideal opportunity for a technically skilled designer who enjoys solving complex problems and building high-quality player-facing features.

Accountabilities:

The Technical UI/UX Designer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing in-game interfaces while ensuring a seamless player experience. This role requires strong collaboration across creative and technical teams to deliver polished, scalable UI solutions.

  • Implement static and animated user interfaces that are intuitive, engaging, and effectively communicate gameplay information.
  • Execute UI designs directly within the game engine, maintaining consistency in visual style, placement, functionality, and data structures.
  • Ensure interfaces are readable, accessible, responsive, and optimized across different platforms.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers, UI engineers, technical designers, and other stakeholders to deliver features aligned with creative direction and production timelines.
  • Continuously improve UI quality through iteration, testing, and refinement throughout development cycles.
  • Identify, implement, document, and promote UI Blueprint architecture best practices and workflows.
  • Solve complex technical and design challenges while balancing performance, usability, accessibility, and visual quality.
  • Support the creation of immersive experiences by ensuring interfaces enhance rather than disrupt gameplay.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong UI design instincts with technical expertise in game development environments. They should be comfortable working collaboratively, solving problems creatively, and delivering high-quality interactive experiences under production constraints.

  • 3+ years of experience in UI technical design for video games, interactive media, or similar environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine and Blueprint scripting.
  • Experience creating complex real-time user interfaces and implementing them directly in-engine.
  • Strong understanding of UI systems, engine technologies, optimization principles, and data structures.
  • Ability to think both creatively and technically, considering usability, accessibility, and performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a passion for improving quality and player experience.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical and design challenges.
  • Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and incorporating constructive feedback.
  • Experience iterating quickly while meeting deadlines and production requirements.
  • Knowledge of motion design, UI animation, in-engine UI materials, or programming languages such as C++ or C# is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards in games and experience with atmospheric or horror game environments is beneficial.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote contract opportunity available across the United States.
  • Competitive hourly compensation based on location, experience, and qualifications:
    • $44 - $58 USD/hour for major metropolitan areas including San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, and Washington DC.
    • $39 - $50 USD/hour for locations including Austin, Denver, Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Miami.
    • $33 - $43 USD/hour for all other U.S. locations.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a high-profile interactive entertainment franchise with a global audience.
  • Collaborative environment working across design, art, and engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to influence player experiences through innovative UI solutions.
  • Flexible remote work structure.
