Reports To: Area Director


Schedule: Before & After School, School Breaks, and Summer Programs

This position will offer an average of 35 hours/week, which will include during our after school programs (Monday-Friday: 2PM-6PM)


Pay: $40/hour

Position Overview

The Head Coach serves as the leader of an after-school program site, creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children. This hands-on leadership role combines youth development, staff supervision, program operations, and relationship building with families and school partners.

The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and passionate about helping children build confidence, resilience, and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Lead daily program operations and ensure a positive experience for students.
  • Facilitate engaging enrichment, academic support, recreation, and character-building activities.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming program environment.
  • Manage student attendance, transitions, and dismissal procedures.

Team Development

  • Supervise and support site staff.
  • Provide coaching, training, and ongoing feedback to team members.
  • Lead staff meetings and promote a positive team culture.

Family & School Partnerships

  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
  • Communicate program updates, successes, and student needs.
  • Represent the organization professionally within the school community.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate program records and documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of leadership experience in education, childcare, youth development, recreation, or a related field.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead staff while actively engaging with children.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

State Requirements:

All candidates must be 21 years old or older and have:

1. One of the following requirements:

  • An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Development, Elementary Education, Child and Family Services AND 1 year of experience working with groups of kids in 3rd grade or younger
  • A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level 3 certificate
  • A Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program
  • A Child Care Certificate AND 1 year of experience working with groups of kids in 3rd grade or younger
  • At least 21 college credits with an early childhood or school aged focus AND 1 year of experience working with groups of kids in 3rd grade or younger

AND

2. One of the following:

  • A Vermont Early Childhood and After School Program Director Step 1 Certificate OR
  • 6 college credits including 3 in program management or staff supervision related to early childhood education AND 3 in curriculum

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout program hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.
