Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following outlines the professional responsibilities for an Imaging Cardiologist within the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). These duties align with UTMB's mission of excellence in patient care, education, research, and community engagement.

Clinical Care
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients with cardiovascular disease, with a focus on cardiac imaging.
  • Provide same-day access when clinically indicated and ensure timely responsiveness to referring provider inquiries.
  • Participate in outreach activities and clinics to expand access to advanced cardiovascular care.

Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor general cardiology fellows during outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in didactic teaching sessions, case conferences, and journal clubs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development for cardiovascular education.
  • Supervise trainee documentation and ensure adherence to institutional standards.

Research & Scholarly Activity
  • Participate in clinical research projects, including patient recruitment for trials.
  • Publish scholarly articles, abstracts, or presentations in the field of cardiology.
  • Support quality improvement and AI-based projects in the section of interventional cardiology.

Administrative Duties
  • Document patient encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Attend & engage in departmental and Institute meetings.
  • Collaborate with clinic management to optimize patient flow and access.
  • Participate in institutional committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to development of clinical protocols, pathways, and best practices.

Quality, Safety, & Compliance
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate credentialing, licensure, and continuing medical education (CME) requirements.
  • Participate in peer review and morbidity/mortality conferences.

Professional Development & Community Engagement
  • Attend & participate in national and regional cardiology conferences.
  • Engage in outreach to referring providers and community organizations.
  • Represent the institution in professional societies and advocacy efforts.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MD degree or equivalent, Board certified or eligible in ABIM Cardiovascular Diseases.
  • Must have completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency.
  • Possess or eligible for full medical license in the State of Texas
