Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005873)
The AMPED lab houses a number of facilities including electrical testing, magnetometry, core loss measurement, power electronics converter excitation, materials synthesis and processing. The laboratory is intended to serve as a collaborative space for students and researchers to develop new materials and demonstrate their performance under application-relevant conditions.
Designs, fabricates, and maintains research instrumentation and develops conceptual project design and instrumentation, software programs, and data collection methods.Assists with conducting research. Oversees research projects and writes and presents results reports at conferences.
Essential Functions
Laboratory management including all aspects of facilities, safety, operations, training, and coordination with facilities. Electrical testing of magnetic cores and components, including testing to established standards and certifications. Design and fabrication of components based upon magnetic cores, including inductors and transformers. Literature review, technical report and publication authorship as well as presentation authorship and delivery. Collaborations with students and other researchers in execution of projects and support of on-going programs.
Physical Effort
Laboratory based work involving electrical testing and related. Also basic laboratory maintenance involving movement of equipment, supplies, and basic lab facilities (tables, chairs, etc.).
