Job Description
Job Summary:
J.H. Routh Packing is looking for an experienced and dedicated Maintenance Manager/Superintendent that can direct the maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing maintenance programs. We are hiring a maintenance leader that can give direction and make tactical decisions while executing mid-range planning beyond weekly activities as it relates to driving improvement and implementing programs related to maintenance optimization.
Responsibilities:
- Directs maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing programs and company policies and procedures.
- Multi-craft/multi-skilled with expertise in electrical, electrical controls, mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, and fabrication
- Provides direction and make tactical decisions while executing mid-range planning beyond weekly activities as it relates to driving improvement and implementing programs related to maintenance optimization.
- Oversees daily operations of projects assigned to the department.
- Initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program based on best practices in food manufacturing, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventative/predictive maintenance.
- Identifies current and future maintenance requirements by establishing rapport with management, engineering, and production personnel and technicians to understand maintenance requirements at the warehouse.
- Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.
- Coaches and assists supervisors in executing short range planning of weekly activities, maintenance technicians and contractors, ensuring timely completion and quality of work in a proactive manner.
- Complies with all OSHA regulations and PSM requirements.
- Resolves maintenance problems by conferring with management, engineering, and quality assurance personnel.
- Responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company
- Directly supervise maintenance Supervisors and technicians.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
- Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems.
- Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, solve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Will assist with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.
- Have working knowledge pertaining to electric, air, stream, and hydraulic applications.
- Experienced with repair and making the necessary adjustments to high-speed production equipment.
- Possess electric & PLC knowledge.
- Previous experience with industrial controls using Allen Bradley control platforms, motor controls a definite plus.
- Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contributions of maintenance technicians.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent leadership/managerial skills
- Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in protein manufacturing facility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to influence outside of direct area of responsibility.
- Ability to multi-task
- Solid proficiency of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Teams)
- Must be available to cover ANY shift 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work around production equipment.
- Ability to work in cold, wet, humid, noisy, and odorous environments.
- Ability to work around knives, machinery, and moving production equipment while following all safety requirements.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move items as required.
- Ability to use a computer and complete production and employee-related documentation.

- Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, management, and other departments.
Work Environment:
- Plant environment includes exposure to both hot and cold temperatures (non-weather related).
- Noise level is generally moderate.
- Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, with occasional lifting above 100 pounds.
Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively.
