SUMMARY
As a Unit Secretary, you are an integral part of the nursing unit, which relies on your help with communications, process management, and supplies.
STATUS: Per diem
LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital - 1425 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
SCHEDULE: Day & evening shifts; hours per shift vary from 4-12 hr. shifts
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides administrative support for assigned nursing unit, including maintenance and monitoring of nurse call system, answering telephone and intercom calls, maintaining supply levels for unit, and reporting unit needs to other departments such as Environmental Services and Maintenance.Support physicians and nurses as needed, daily rounding, and attends required meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Administration. Answer telephone/route calls, provide administrative support for nurses and physicians, sort and distribute mail; create work orders, HELPSTAR tickets, and report any unit requirements to appropriate department; maintain inventory and supply levels for unit
Patient Care. Perform daily rounding of patients on unit, update whiteboards and ensure all safety measures are in place; respond to patient’s call for service as needed; maintain awareness of arrivals and discharges on unit
Documentation. Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional documentation skills and professional behavior
Excellent communications and organization skills
Demonstrated experience with PC and office software programs
Required Licensure/Certification Skills: In Long Term Care Only: Certification in NYS as Certified Nursing Assistant (as it applies to Unit Secretaries when performing as Certified Nursing Assistants)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree preferred.
Two years of related work experience in a healthcare setting or customer service setting preferred.
Effective verbal and/or written communication skills highly desired
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
PAY RANGE: $17.25 - $19.75
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
