Description:

The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) represents more than 1,700 companies in the U.S. and around the globe who play a critical part in providing recycled materials to America’s manufacturing industries. Based in Washington, D.C., we promote safe, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible recycling through education, networking, and advocacy.

The Communications Manager supports ReMA’s strategic communications efforts by developing and executing multi-channel content and engagement initiatives that advance the association’s priorities and strengthen its visibility among members, policymakers, industry stakeholders, media, and the public. This role manages day-to-day communications operations, contributes to media and digital engagement strategies, and collaborates across departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of ReMA’s messages aligned with ReMA’s mission and brand.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages day-to-day communications workflows to support organizational priorities, campaigns, events, and initiatives.
  • Drafts, edits, and produces communications materials, including newsletters, press releases, member communications, social media copy, website updates, podcasts, and video scripts.
  • Manages and executes ReMA’s social media content planning and posting, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and engagement goals.
  • Supports media relations efforts through media monitoring, maintenance of media lists, distribution of media clips, and coordination of outreach activities.
  • Monitors news and social media for developments relevant to ReMA’s priorities and provides updates to staff and leadership.
  • Analyzes communications performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous improvements across communications channels.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, chapters, and external partners to support coordinated messaging and communications consistency across ReMA.
  • Represents ReMA at industry events, supporting communications needs and external engagement.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex industry and policy topics into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, hybrid work environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools and digital platforms to support content creation, audience engagement, media monitoring, analytics, and communications workflows while maintaining strong editorial judgment and brand standards.
  • Experience managing digital communications platforms and tools, including email marketing systems, content management systems, social media management tools, media monitoring platforms, and AI-enabled communications technologies.
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design, video editing, podcast production, or multimedia content development tools is preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Working Conditions

  • The salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000.
