Executive Director, National Director of Field Medical

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Executive Director, National Director of Field Medical based in the United States.

This is a senior, field-based leadership role at the intersection of medical affairs strategy and scientific execution, responsible for shaping and leading national field medical engagement across a disease area portfolio.
You will guide a high-performing team of medical science liaisons and regional medical leads, ensuring consistent scientific excellence and impactful external engagement.
The role plays a pivotal part in translating medical strategy into actionable field initiatives that improve patient care and support successful product development and launches.
You will partner closely with global program teams, clinical development, and medical leadership to align field insights with broader scientific and portfolio strategy.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong cross-functional influence, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
You will also play a key role in developing organizational talent and shaping the future of field medical leadership.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the national field medical strategy for a disease area, ensuring alignment with overall medical and product strategies.
  • Translate medical and scientific strategy into actionable field initiatives and ensure execution through MSL and RML teams.
  • Partner with global program teams and medical leadership to support launch readiness, lifecycle planning, and integrated medical strategy development.
  • Serve as a field medical representative in cross-functional governance forums and global program discussions as needed.
  • Capture, analyze, and integrate field insights to inform broader medical, clinical, and product strategies.
  • Develop stakeholder engagement strategies and scientific communication plans across the product lifecycle.
  • Define field medical performance metrics, analytics, and impact measurement frameworks.
  • Lead congress planning strategy, including coverage, scientific priorities, and deliverables.
  • Oversee field medical training, scientific upskilling, and timely dissemination of new clinical data.
  • Develop and execute field medical trial support strategies in collaboration with clinical operations.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory, ethical, and internal standards.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the national field medical team, fostering performance, engagement, and career growth.
Requirements:
  • Advanced scientific or healthcare degree required; MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience, including significant field medical experience.
  • Proven leadership experience managing field-based scientific teams across multiple regions.
  • Strong background in medical affairs, clinical science, and disease area knowledge, preferably in cardiovascular or related therapeutic areas.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks (FDA, OIG, HIPAA, PhRMA Code).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute scientific and medical strategy in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interpret clinical, scientific, and market data.
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration with clinical development, commercial, and medical teams.
  • Highly organized with strong project management and prioritization skills in complex environments.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and lead teams through change while maintaining scientific excellence.
