Job Description
Air is a Creative Ops System for creative teams. Our product automates the mindless tasks that creatives and marketers do every day to manage content and unlocks creativity through image recognition, automated versioning, and approval workflows. We launched in March 2021 and have raised +$70m from world-class venture capital groups including Avenir, Tiger Global, Headline Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, WndrCo, and Slack Ventures.
This role requires in-office attendance at least 3 days/week in Toronto.
This is a ground-floor moment to build an AI-native finance and accounting operation.
Air has built the foundational tools and data. What we're building now is a finance function for the AI-native era – and this person will be in the driver’s seat. This is not a glorified bookkeeping role. It's an architecture and insights operator role, with a clear path to Controller or FP&A leadership. You will report directly to our VP of Finance with direct ownership from day one.
This is an IC role with an outsourced bookkeeping partner and AR specialist to manage from day one. As we scale, there's a natural path to growing the team.
FP&A
- Prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis and operational insights.
- Support VP of Finance with budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Partner with VP of Finance on runway modeling, managing cash and treasury on an ongoing basis.
Accounting & Reporting
- Own the monthly and annual close end-to-end, preparing timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow)
- Own revenue recognition under ASC 606; review SaaS contracts and accurately record deferred revenue.
- Manage our outsourced bookkeeper to enforce accounting policies and internal controls in our ERP.
Operations & Control
- Own Air's path to audit-readiness: internal controls, documentation, and workpapers.
- Own Accounts Payable through Ramp, including budget setup, vendor management, approvals, and spend controls.
- Partner with Customer Support to manage Accounts Receivable (from invoice to cash) to ensure healthy cash collections.
- Manage SaaS sales tax and nexus compliance, including monitoring economic nexus thresholds as we expand into new states.
Systems & Automation
- Evaluate, select, and implement accounting tools as we scale beyond our current stack (QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Rippling).
- Own, define, and maintain the semantic layer for financial context, translating raw data to consistent metrics.
- Build and improve automated reporting and forecasting with AI tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4–8 years of progressive finance and/or accounting experience.
- Fluency in US GAAP, ASC 606, accounting fundamentals, and month end processes.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar tools.
- CPA designation and Big 4 experience are strongly preferred.
- Experience at a high growth, SaaS company strongly preferred.
- Detail-oriented but can balance speed and accuracy based on materiality.
- Comfortable creating order in messy processes and unstructured environments.
- Excited to learn, experiment, and build with AI tools.
- Act like a driver: Take initiative and ownership without waiting to be told.
- Work in public: Share ideas openly, get feedback early, and collaborate across teams.
- Play to win: Aim high and bring creativity, adaptability, and focus to your work.
- Say the hard thing: Give and receive feedback with clarity and respect.
- Disagree and commit: Debate honestly, then align quickly to move forward together.
Why Air?
- Growth and Impact: Join a rapidly scaling company with a mission to transform the creative ops space. Your work will have a direct, tangible impact on our ARR growth.
- Comprehensive Benefits: We offer competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with dependent coverage. You’ll also enjoy a generous work-from-home stipend, professional development reimbursement, and unlimited vacation days.
- Commitment to Diversity: We believe in the power of diverse perspectives and strive to create an inclusive culture that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and experiences.
- Competitive Compensation: The compensation range for this role is CAD $150,000 - $200,000 base salary + equity.
At Air, we’re committed to building a world-class team and helping every individual reach their full potential. If you're passionate about solving big problems and growing with an innovative company, we’d love to meet you!
