Job Description

Staff Software Engineer, Guest Lifecycle & Loyalty

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Guest Lifecycle & Loyalty based in the United States.

This is a high-impact staff engineering role focused on building the intelligence and personalization systems that power how millions of end customers engage with local businesses. You will sit at the core of a platform that functions like an autonomous marketing engine for restaurants, orchestrating messaging, loyalty, segmentation, and experimentation across multiple channels. The work spans backend systems, data pipelines, and applied ML/AI, with a strong emphasis on reliability, scale, and real-world business outcomes. You will help define how personalization evolves from rule-based systems into increasingly agent-driven and ML-powered decisioning. The environment is fast-moving and deeply technical, with significant ownership and cross-functional collaboration across product, data, and marketing teams. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys shaping platform direction while still staying close to complex systems design and execution.

Accountabilities:

Define and lead the technical direction of the Guest Lifecycle & Loyalty platform, building the systems that power personalization, messaging, and customer retention at scale.

  • Architect and evolve the personalization and decisioning systems that determine messaging, timing, channel selection, and creative targeting
  • Build and scale the intelligence layer using a combination of LLM-based approaches and traditional ML systems
  • Own high-scale communication infrastructure, ensuring reliability, deliverability, and performance across email, SMS, and push channels
  • Design and improve experimentation, attribution, and measurement systems to support data-driven decision-making
  • Transform one-off campaign logic into reusable, scalable platform primitives and APIs
  • Improve data quality, segmentation systems, and event pipelines that power personalization workflows
  • Lead technical design reviews, set engineering standards, and mentor engineers across teams
  • Partner closely with Product, Data, and Marketing to define roadmap priorities and resolve ambiguous, high-impact problems
Requirements:

This role requires deep systems expertise, strong backend engineering experience, and the ability to lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives in a high-scale environment.

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend and distributed systems focus
  • Proven experience owning and delivering large-scale, multi-team technical initiatives end-to-end
  • Strong systems design skills with experience building reliable, high-throughput services and data pipelines
  • Experience with experimentation frameworks, analytics, or data-driven product development
  • Familiarity with ML/AI systems, including applied LLM use cases and/or traditional machine learning approaches
  • Strong mentorship and leadership ability with a track record of raising engineering standards across teams
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across product, data, and engineering stakeholders
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments and translating open-ended problems into scalable technical solutions
  • Strong product intuition and a bias toward measurable business impact
  • Bonus: experience with marketing systems, CRM platforms, personalization engines, or lifecycle messaging infrastructure
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary: $220,000 – $240,000 USD depending on experience and location
  • Generous pre-IPO equity package
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • Unlimited PTO and flexible, remote-first work environment
  • Work-from-anywhere flexibility (role-dependent)
  • High-impact, staff-level ownership with significant technical autonomy
  • Opportunity to shape next-generation AI-driven personalization systems at scale
  • Additional perks and team benefits designed to support collaboration and engagement.
