Job Description
The Lab Lead serves as a key member of the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program and is responsible for the coordination, oversight, and daily operations of the nursing skills laboratory. This position supports student learning by ensuring laboratory experiences align with course objectives, accreditation standards, and nursing program outcomes. The Lab Lead collaborates closely with clinical, laboratory, simulation, and theory faculty to provide a high-quality educational experience for students.
In addition to laboratory oversight, the Lab Lead assists with clinical operations through site visits, faculty support, and scheduling coordination to ensure consistency between laboratory instruction and clinical practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the nursing skills laboratory.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and functional laboratory environment.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment, supplies, and instructional materials are available and operational.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and equipment maintenance standards.
- Coordinate laboratory setup and breakdown for scheduled student activities.
- Assist with the implementation of new laboratory equipment and educational resources.
Laboratory Scheduling
- Develop and maintain the master laboratory schedule for all ASN cohorts.
- Coordinate skills practice sessions, remediation activities, open lab hours, and skills validations.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure laboratory resources are available to support course objectives.
- Communicate schedule changes and laboratory availability to students and faculty.
- Monitor utilization of laboratory space and recommend scheduling improvements.
Faculty and Student Support
- Provide support and guidance to laboratory faculty and clinical instructors.
- Assist with student remediation activities and skills practice opportunities.
- Support faculty with laboratory demonstrations, check-offs, and competency evaluations.
- Participate in student orientation and residency activities as assigned.
- Serve as a resource for students regarding laboratory expectations and procedures.
Clinical Site Support
- Conduct clinical site visits to support faculty and students during clinical rotations.
- Monitor clinical learning environments to ensure consistency with program expectations.
- Serve as a liaison between clinical faculty, clinical facilities, and program leadership.
- Assist in identifying clinical site needs, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide feedback to program leadership regarding clinical site quality and student experiences.
- Support onboarding and compliance activities related to clinical placements as needed.
Program Development and Quality Improvement
- Participate in program committees, faculty meetings, and accreditation activities.
- Assist with the development, revision, and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Support quality improvement initiatives related to laboratory and clinical education.
- Maintain records and documentation required for accreditation and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with preparation for accreditation visits and regulatory reviews.
Required
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of three years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Previous experience teaching in a nursing laboratory, simulation, or clinical setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel to clinical sites as needed.
Preferred
- Experience in pre-licensure nursing education.
- Experience with laboratory management and scheduling.
- Experience with simulation-based education.
- Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements related to nursing education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Knowledge of nursing skills instruction and competency evaluation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with learning management systems, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, and organize laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during laboratory activities and clinical site visits.
- Ability to demonstrate nursing skills and procedures as needed.
Work Schedule
This position may require occasional evening, weekend, and travel commitments based on laboratory schedules, student needs, and clinical site support activities.
