Coordinator of Adult Education in Great Bend, Kansas at Barton Community College

Position Description: This position will work with the populations at Ellsworth Correctional Facility and Larned State Correctional Facility to provide educational services as well as program oversight. As a learning college and organization, Barton Community College employees are committed to our students, colleagues, and the College. Staff's primary objective is to provide quality education, services and training. In addition to program coordination responsibilities, staff also participate in professional development, support of college policies and procedures, and service to college and community. Provide personal, academic, and vocational services to students in preparation for the GED exam, adult literacy, college readiness and develop pathways for academic transition, and/or job skills enrichment. Note: This position is either completely or partially grant funded. Employment contingent upon continued grant funding. Position Responsibilities: 60.00% - Provide direct instructional services as required which may include, online, face-to-face, AO-K etc. as well as substitute instruction for instructional specialists as needed. Deliver quality instruction through effective curriculum development, teaching, and assessment. Maintain accurate lesson plans, student data, attendance, and test scores, submitting required information to LACES weekly. Monitor student progress, assess readiness for advancement, and provide timely feedback to support student success. 10.00% - Manage projects and activities related to adult education programs and consortia. Monitor quality and effectiveness of technical assistance, professional development and maintain systems and processes to support program operations. Conduct oversight of outreach tutors and instructional sites. Support in overseeing program management and ensuring all requirements are met for the program goals and objectives. 15.00% - Work with educational program providers, Instructors, Administrators, and KDOC departments (i.e. Re-Entry, Mental Health, etc.) to ensure the needs of the residents are met and any barriers to education are resolved. 5.00% - Actively participate in all KBOR, KDOC, contract and regional adult education meetings and training activities, participate in collaborative educational initiatives, and promote program benefits to the community, including workforce and postsecondary organizations to connect education and employment pathways and establishment of new services. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. 5.00% - Support student enrollment; oversee daily program functions; collaborate with direct staff to ensure program operations are seamless. Including contact and partnership with all appropriate partners. Expectations: Demonstrate professionalism with administration, students, staff, peers and collaborators. Sustain and enhance grant-funded programs and develop new program initiatives. Deliver quality education and training; demonstrate skills in curriculum development, teaching, and assessment. Establish pathways for AE students and graduates to pursue post-secondary training/education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
Other Skills -

Master's degree preferred; adult education, workforce education, or related field preferred.

Previous teaching experience required (higher education or adult education area preferred). Attention to detail, program and budget management, excellent writing, verbal, and problem solving skills, the ability to analyze and interpret data, strong organizational skills, computer operation, and general understanding of literacy programs including career technical education are required. Previous experience in working with grant funded programs beneficial. Demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment for professional development opportunities.

Education - A Bachelor's degree.
Interpersonal Skills - Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Wages/Other:

The salary range for this position is $51,370.59 to $57,185.74.
