ESS Field Technician

MODTECH SOLUTIONS LLC | FIELD OPERATIONS

Location

CONUS-based; preference for Mascoutah, Illinois / Greater St. Louis area

Travel

Position Summary

The Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Field Technician installs, integrates, tests, maintains, and troubleshoots electronic security systems supporting Modtech Solutions projects. Systems include access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance/CCTV, and associated network and low-voltage infrastructure. This is a hands-on field position requiring strong technical and mechanical capability, including conduit installation and bending, cable pulling, device installation, termination, testing, configuration, and commissioning support. Modtech supports platforms including LenelS2 and Honeywell Vindicator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot Electronic Security Systems (ESS), including access control, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and video surveillance/CCTV.

• Install and support ESS platforms and equipment including LenelS2, Honeywell Vindicator, and other commercial and Government security technologies.

• Install security cameras, card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, intrusion detection devices, control panels, power supplies, controllers, network equipment, and associated field devices.

• Install, bend, route, and secure EMT conduit and approved raceway systems supporting ESS installations.

• Measure, cut, bend, ream, assemble, and install conduit using hand and mechanical conduit-bending equipment.

• Install cable pathways and support structures including conduit, cable tray, J-hooks, innerduct, equipment racks, cabinets, and other related infrastructure.

• Pull, route, dress, terminate, test, and label communications, security, network, control, copper, and fiber optic cabling.

• Build out ESS equipment racks, cabinets, panels, telecommunications rooms, and security equipment spaces.

• Assist with and perform on-site configuration, programming, integration, and commissioning of ESS devices and systems based on experience and manufacturer qualifications.

• Perform system testing and functional verification of cameras, access control devices, intrusion detection devices, communications, and associated system components.

• Perform maintenance, repair, replacement, and troubleshooting of existing ESS systems and infrastructure.

• Troubleshoot cabling, power, communications, network connectivity, devices, controllers, and system integration issues.

• Coordinate with manufacturer technical support and Modtech Engineering to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

• Read and understand project drawings, floor plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, device details, conduit plans, network diagrams, equipment schedules, and manufacturer documentation.

• Perform accurate field markups and redlines to support final as-built documentation.

• Assist Engineers and Lead Technicians with on-site system integration, programming, configuration, testing, and customer acceptance activities.

• Support implementation of network and cybersecurity requirements as directed by Modtech Engineering and project requirements.

• Maintain manufacturer certifications relevant to assigned systems and responsibilities.

• Complete project reports, test documentation, field reports, and other technical documentation accurately and within established timeframes.

• Communicate and collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Lead Technicians, other trades, Government personnel, customers, and team members to resolve field and technical issues.

Required Qualifications

• Experience installing electronic security, access control, intrusion detection, CCTV/video surveillance, electrical, telecommunications, or other low-voltage systems.

• Demonstrated ability to install and bend EMT conduit, including common field bends such as offsets, kicks, and saddles.

• Experience pulling, routing, dressing, terminating, testing, and labeling low-voltage cabling.

• Working knowledge of access control, intrusion detection, CCTV/video surveillance, and associated field devices.

• Ability to install cameras, card readers, sensors, control panels, controllers, power supplies, cabinets, network equipment, and associated ESS components.

• Ability to troubleshoot cabling, power, device, communications, and connectivity issues in a field environment.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on field installation work.

• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, system diagrams, rack elevations, floor plans, and installation documentation.

• Ability to use common AV, telecommunications, electrical, and low-voltage installation tools and test equipment.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to installation quality, safety, and professional conduct.

• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, subcontractors, and Government personnel.

• Ability to work at heights, use ladders and lifts, and perform the physical activities associated with field installation.

• Valid driver's license.

• U.S. citizenship required.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret (TS) security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active U.S. Government security clearance strongly preferred.

• Current or former U.S. military service preferred.

• Experience supporting Department of Defense or other U.S. Government facilities.

• Experience working in secure or classified Government facilities.

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

• Experience with LenelS2 OnGuard access control systems.

• Experience with Honeywell Vindicator intrusion detection/security systems.

• Manufacturer certifications for LenelS2, Honeywell Vindicator, or other relevant ESS platforms.

• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise IP video surveillance systems.

• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, PoE, network switches, VLANs, and basic network troubleshooting.

• Experience with fiber optic installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.

• BICSI, NICET, manufacturer, fiber optic, electrical, low-voltage, or other relevant industry certifications.

Location and Travel

This is a CONUS-based field position. Preference will be given to candidates located near Modtech Solutions' warehouse and operations facility in Mascoutah, Illinois / Greater St. Louis area. Candidates located elsewhere within the continental United States may be considered based on qualifications and ability to support project requirements.

Approximately 50–60% travel is required to support projects at Department of Defense and other U.S. Government facilities throughout the United States. Travel assignments may vary in duration and may occasionally require extended stays at project locations. Candidates must be comfortable traveling by commercial air and vehicle and working at military installations, secure facilities, active construction sites, and other Government locations.
