Job Description
Health Benefits Analyst
-
GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Health Benefits Analyst conducts interviews and counsel patient account guarantors to identify sources of payment of hospital bills. Responsibilities include but not limited to, verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining insurance authorizations and serving as a knowledgeable resource to the transplant team. Reports to the Patient Account Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits for transplant services.

Obtains insurance authorizations related to transplant services.
-
Obtains transplant pharmacy authorizations.
-
Serves as a resource to the patient for insurance coverage and billing inquires.

Acts as a liaison to the transplant team to ensure financial coverage for transplant services.

Functions as a liaison between Hospital departments, insurance carriers, third party vendors, and patients in obtaining insurance eligibility, authorization of services and funding sources for hospital services.

Performs a variety of patient accounting functions to ensure timely collection and processing of hospital accounts receivable.

Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
-
None required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
-
Minimum of one to three years of experience working in patient financial services, transplant financial counseling, and/or transplant insurance authorizations.
-
Minimum of six to twelve months of Medical Billing experience in a hospital or physician office Patient Accounts department.
-
Comprehensive knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terminology required.
-
Prior transplant experience a plus.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
-
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively gather and exchange information in both oral and written communications.

Must have intermediate level typing and personal computer skills to maintain and create routine business correspondence.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
