The Summer 2027 Logistics Intern will support the booking, tracking, monitoring, and reporting of international and domestic shipments from factories to warehouses. The intern will work with the Logistics Manager and Simple Modern’s Manufacturing and Planning teams to keep shipments moving and information accurate.
This role requires an organized, proactive problem solver who can manage multiple logistics activities. Success requires clear communication, attention to detail, reliable task management, and productive relationships with internal teams, freight forwarders, factories, and warehouse partners.
ObjectivesKey Responsibilities:
1. Container Booking and Monitoring:
○ Learn the Flexport, V.Alexander and Simple Modern Container Portal systems and use them to support the booking and monitoring of ocean containers.
○ Communicate with freight-forwarder teams regarding shipment issues, changes, and required follow-up.
○ Provide regular shipment-status reporting and, when needed, coordinate container pickups with factory representatives.
2. Warehouse Pickup and Delivery Scheduling:
○ Coordinate with warehouse representatives and logistics partners to facilitate timely product pickup and delivery.
○ Work within company and partner systems to document receipts and report errors, shortages, overages, and other discrepancies.
3. Domestic Truck Booking and Monitoring:
○ Book domestic shipments with freight forwarders and carriers, coordinate pickup and delivery, and communicate updates to the parties involved.
○ Monitor active domestic shipments and escalate delays or execution issues that require attention.
4. Reporting and Other Duties:
○ Develop reports and regularly provide requested logistics information to Simple Modern team members.
○ Support data entry, documentation, and other logistics responsibilities as needed and assigned.
5. AI tool creation/ Experimentation
○ Develop practical AI-enabled tools that automate and improve team logistics processes.
○ Test, manage, and refine these tools using strong problem-solving skills and feedback from end users
6. Demonstrate an Ownership Mindset:
○ Embrace Simple Modern’s ownership culture by supporting warehouse operations, hands-on product fulfillment, and other operational initiatives as needed. Some summer assignments may involve heat and physical activity; the intern should be prepared to work safely, remain flexible, and contribute wherever support is needed.

Success Measures
The internship will be evaluated based on reliable execution, accuracy, communication, and demonstrated growth in logistics capability. By the end of the summer, the intern should be able to support routine shipment booking and monitoring activities, maintain accurate status information, identify and communicate exceptions, and contribute useful reporting for the Logistics, Manufacturing, and Planning teams.
