DIRECTOR OF FLEET AND SAFETY in Hazlet, New Jersey at EventWorks

The Director of Fleet & Safety is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and oversight of EventWorks' fleet, operational safety programs, and critical facility and infrastructure assets across all company locations. This position will develop and implement consistent company-wide standards to ensure EventWorks' vehicles, equipment, facilities, and operating environments are safe, reliable, compliant, well-maintained, and cost-effective. The successful Director of Fleet & Safety will be a hands-on, analytical, and proactive operational leader who understands that reliable vehicles and assets, well-maintained facilities, and a strong safety culture are essential to EventWorks' ability to serve its customers.

Working closely with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Risk Management, and local leadership, this individual will use technology, data, preventive maintenance, training, and standardized processes to reduce risk, control costs, improve reliability, and protect EventWorks' employees and assets.

Fleet Management

• Provide company-wide leadership and oversight of EventWorks' trucks, vans, trailers, and other company vehicles.
• Develop and implement standardized fleet management policies and best practices across all locations.
• Maintain visibility into fleet size, composition, age, mileage, condition, utilization, maintenance history, and total operating costs.
• Develop vehicle replacement schedules based on age, mileage, maintenance costs, reliability, utilization, and total cost of ownership.
• Analyze fleet utilization by location and recommend additions, transfers, replacements, or reductions.
• Partner with Finance and Operations to develop annual fleet operating and capital budgets.
• Manage relationships with vehicle dealers, leasing companies, maintenance providers, rental companies, and other fleet vendors.
• Identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability and utilization while controlling operating and capital costs.

Fleet Maintenance & Rental Vehicles

• Establish and oversee preventive maintenance programs for all company vehicles and trailers.
• Ensure required inspections and scheduled maintenance are completed and properly documented.
• Monitor vehicle repair history, downtime, and recurring reliability issues.
• Evaluate significant repair-versus-replacement decisions.
• Establish standards and approved providers for rental vehicles.
• Monitor rental vehicle utilization and expenses by location.
• Analyze recurring rental activity to determine when purchasing or reallocating company-owned vehicles provides a better long-term solution.
• Work with local operations teams to forecast peak-season and event-driven vehicle requirements.

Fuel Management

• Oversee EventWorks' company-wide fuel management program.
• Manage fuel card policies, controls, vendors, and reporting.
• Monitor fuel consumption and costs by vehicle, driver, location, and region.
• Identify unusual fuel usage, unauthorized purchases, excessive idling, or other exceptions.
• Establish fuel-efficiency benchmarks and reporting.
• Use fleet technology and operational data to identify opportunities to reduce fuel consumption and costs.

Fleet Technology & Samsara

• Serve as the primary business owner and administrator for EventWorks' Samsara fleet management platform and related fleet technologies.
• Establish standards for GPS, telematics, cameras, driver monitoring, vehicle diagnostics, and related technology.
• Develop dashboards and reporting for leadership and local operations teams.
• Monitor speeding, harsh braking, rapid acceleration, seat belt usage, distracted driving,
• excessive idling, mileage, utilization, and other relevant metrics.
• Establish processes for reviewing safety events and determining appropriate driver coaching or corrective action.
• Use Samsara data to improve safety, fleet utilization, vehicle maintenance, routing efficiency, and operating costs.
• Evaluate emerging fleet technologies and recommend solutions that improve safety, visibility, efficiency, and accountability.

Facilities & Critical Infrastructure

• Provide company-wide oversight and coordination of maintenance for critical operational infrastructure and facility assets.
• Establish preventive maintenance and inspection programs for key facility and operational assets.
• Develop consistent maintenance standards across EventWorks locations.
• Work with local leadership to identify maintenance requirements and ensure issues are addressed proactively.
• Maintain visibility into the condition, maintenance history, and expected useful life of significant infrastructure assets.
• Develop long-term capital replacement plans for major facility and infrastructure needs.
• Coordinate appropriate vendors and service providers and establish preferred vendor relationships where beneficial.
• Support new facilities, expansions, relocations, and acquisitions by implementing EventWorks maintenance and safety standards.

Driver & Transportation Safety

• Develop, implement, and lead EventWorks' company-wide driver safety program.
• Establish clear driver safety policies, expectations, training requirements, and accountability standards.
• Develop driver onboarding and recurring safety training.
• Monitor driver performance using Samsara, accident history, motor vehicle records, and other available information.
• Establish a consistent process for coaching drivers following safety events or concerning driving behavior.
• Lead or coordinate investigations of vehicle accidents and incidents.
• Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Track accident frequency, severity, preventability, and associated costs.
• Promote a strong culture of safe and responsible driving throughout EventWorks.

Warehouse, Installer & Operational Safety

• Develop and support safety programs for EventWorks installers, warehouse personnel, drivers, and other operational employees.
• Establish company-wide safety standards for warehouse operations, loading and unloading, material handling, equipment movement, installations, and event operations.
• Partner with local and regional leaders to identify workplace hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and coordinate safety training, toolbox talks, and recurring safety communications.
• Establish procedures for reporting and investigating accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditions.
• Analyze incidents to identify trends and recurring risks and develop corrective action plans designed to prevent recurrence.
• Establish appropriate training and operating requirements for forklifts, lifts, material-handling equipment, and other applicable equipment.
• Promote employee accountability and a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Help ensure fleet, facility, and operational practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Maintain appropriate vehicle, driver, inspection, maintenance, facility, and safety documentation.
• Partner with Human Resources, insurance providers, brokers, and operational leadership regarding driver eligibility and risk management.
• Support motor vehicle record and driver qualification programs.
• Support OSHA-related operational safety requirements, training, and documentation.
• Coordinate with insurance and risk-management partners to identify opportunities to reduce claims and improve EventWorks' risk profile.
• Analyze accidents, workers' compensation claims, property damage, and other incidents to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Budgeting & Capital Planning

• Develop and manage annual budgets for fleet maintenance, rental vehicles, fuel, fleet technology, facility maintenance, and other assigned areas.
• Develop long-term capital forecasts for vehicle, facility, and infrastructure replacement.
• Analyze total cost of ownership when evaluating major fleet and facility investments.
• Identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses without sacrificing safety, reliability, or service.
• Establish appropriate approval and cost-control processes.
• Provide leadership with regular reporting of actual performance compared with budget.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Responsibilities

• Serve as EventWorks' primary subject matter expert for fleet management and operational safety, while coordinating maintenance of critical facility assets.
• Provide leadership, training, direction, and support to local and regional operations teams.
• Establish consistent company-wide expectations while recognizing differences in individual markets and facilities.
• Partner closely with Operations, Human Resources, Finance, Risk Management, and senior leadership.
• Lead regular fleet, facility, and safety reviews with local and regional leaders.
• Develop strong relationships with external fleet, facility, maintenance, safety, insurance, and technology partners.
• Support acquisitions and new locations by integrating fleet, facilities, systems, and safety practices into EventWorks standards.
• Drive accountability and continuous improvement across the organization.

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Business Administration/Management or related fields.
• Certifications & Training specific to operational, environmental, driver, and employee safety
• Minimum of 3-5 years of Leadership & Management Training
• Certified Fleet Management Training
• OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Safety Certification
