Coating Technician – Polymer and Powder Coatings in Baltimore, Maryland at AALBERTS SURFACE TREATMENT

**PLEASE READ!!!!! This position will be located at our Baltimore, MD location. Employee will train for 4-6 weeks at our Houston or Odessa, TX location. Expenses for travel, accommodations, and food will be paid for by Aalberts Surface Technologies. Employee will need to be able to travel until training is complete.**

The Coating Technician is primarily responsible for performing HVOF and other assigned coating operations in accordance with shop routers, drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and established safety procedures. This position also provides cross-functional production support by performing quality control inspection, cylindrical/surface grinding, general labor, material handling, and related manufacturing duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Job Specifications / Skills

· Knowledge of thermal spray techniques and familiarity with HVOF operating controls.

· Ability to use a variety of measuring and inspection devices efficiently and accurately.

· Ability to interpret shop router instructions, drawings, and other production documentation.

· Strong basic math skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

· Ability to use a variety of electric, pneumatic, hand, and sanding tools.

· Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance.

· Knowledge of grinding sprayed coatings and the appropriate use of different grinding wheel types.

· Ability to generate and complete records accurately and collect required quality information.

· Ability to perform assigned in-house calibrations on measuring instruments when trained and authorized.

· Self-starter who can prioritize work, maintain steady workflow, multitask, and complete tasks with minimal guidance.

· Commitment to safe work practices, teamwork, quality, and continuous learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Function - Coating Operations

· Operate assigned HVOF/thermal spray equipment safely and maintain consistent machine operation to support production workflow.

· Determine appropriate setup practices for coating parts in accordance with work instructions, drawings, and specifications.

· Verify the correct coating materials are used for each job.

· Monitor gases used in the coating process and ensure adequate working levels are maintained.

· Maintain required part dimensions during processing and use inspection tools to verify conformance.

· Complete required company and production documentation accurately and legibly.

· Perform routine equipment checks and minor preventive maintenance within the scope of training and authorization.

· Coordinate with and provide work direction to blast operators when assigned as part of coating operations.

· Any other tasks assigned by management.

Secondary Function - Quality Control Inspection

· Perform inspection of processed parts as assigned and document inspection results in accordance with quality requirements.

· Use appropriate measuring devices to verify part dimensions, finish, and other specified characteristics.

· Maintain inspection tools for accuracy and perform assigned in-house calibrations on a regular basis when trained and authorized.

· Identify and communicate nonconforming conditions and assist with required quality documentation.

· Issue or support Corrective Action Requests (CAR) and Preventive Action Requests (PAR) when authorized and when the need arises.

· Any other tasks assigned by management

Secondary Function - Grinding / Finishing

· Operate cylindrical and/or surface grinding equipment as assigned and within demonstrated competency.

· Grind sprayed coatings to required size and finish according to shop router instructions, drawings, and specifications.

· Select and use appropriate grinding wheel types for assigned work.

· Maintain the cutting surface of grinding wheels for optimum performance.

· Check and maintain machine fluids and perform minor preventive maintenance as assigned.

· Use hand and sanding tools as necessary to support finishing operations.

· Any other tasks assigned by management

Secondary Function - General Labor / Production Support

· Provide general manufacturing and warehouse support as directed based on production requirements.

· Follow written and verbal instructions and assist other production areas as needed.

· Handle and move parts, materials, tools, and supplies safely, including lifting within established physical requirements.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

· Demonstrate willingness to learn additional production skills and processes.

· Follow all company rules, policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable work schedules.

· Report to work on time, maintain regular attendance, and support a dependable team environment.

· Any other tasks assigned by management
