    Job Purpose

The Label Attendant is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing labels, neck bands, and tubing to support production runs. This role verifies incoming shipments against purchase orders, restocks returned labels in their assigned bins, and performs regular cycle counts to help maintain inventory accuracy.

    Job Functions

  • Verify counts on all incoming labels, neck bands, and tubing, and receive them in real time in the ERP system.
  • Store labels in their assigned bins to ensure availability for future production runs.
  • Issue labels for production runs using a handheld RF scanner.
  • Stock label carts daily with the labels required for scheduled production runs.
  • Verify quantities of labels returned from production and restock them in their designated bins.
  • Sort and count incoming labels to confirm quantities match vendor shipments.
  • Always maintain the label storage area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Report label shortages to Production and Purchasing as soon as they are identified.
  • Print and apply LP IDs to labels, neck bands, and tubing upon receipt for proper identification.
  • All inbound labels will need to be received once pull label samples are verified by QA.
  • Perform label cycle counts as required to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain the forklift by keeping it clean and charging the battery at the end of each shift.
  • Pull and process labels for disposal as instructed by Purchasing, QA, or Sales.
  • Learn and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Food Safety & Traceability

  • Verify that the label version pulled matches the current, approved specification/BOM for that production run before issuing it to the line.
  • Confirm allergen declarations on each label match the actual product formulation, and physically segregate allergen-specific labels from non-allergen labels to prevent mix-ups.
  • Immediately quarantine and report any obsolete, damaged, mismatched, or suspect labels to QA/Purchasing rather than issuing them, and hold them for proper disposition.
  • Support the label change-control process, including pulling and documenting destruction of obsolete labels when a spec or formulation changes.
  • Maintain lot-level traceability linking label lots to production lots to support recall readiness and mock recall exercises.
  • Verify net weight, nutritional panel, and country-of-origin information on labels for accuracy before release, in line with FDA/Fair Packaging and Labeling requirements.
  • Follow FIFO (first-expired, first-out) rotation for label stock to avoid using outdated inventory.
  • Confirm labels match customer-specific requirements and branding specs for private-label/co-pack customers before issuing to production.
  • Support internal and third-party audits (SQF, BRC, customer audits) by keeping label inventory, documentation, and storage areas audit-ready at all times.
  • Report barcode/UPC or print quality issues (smudging, misprints, scan failures) to Purchasing or the label vendor.
  • Follow GMPs specific to the label room/production floor, including hairnets, no jewelry, and no food or drink in labeling areas.
  • Competencies

  • Team player with great communication skills
  • Reliable and detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated and accountable
  • Adaptable to production changes
  • Skills

  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong math skills to accurately count, issue, receive, and reconcile inventory.
