Job Title: CDL Class B Driver
Reports to: General Manager
Location: N. Andover, MA
Hourly Non-Exempt: $32.00 - $34.00
Position Summary
American Gas Products, Inc. is seeking a reliable and experienced Class B CDL Driver to join our team, specializing in the transportation and delivery of industrial, medical, and cryogenic gases. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing multiple delivery types, including pressurized bulk cylinders, palletized hard goods on rack trucks, and microbulk liquid gas transfer.
The driver is responsible for the safe, timely delivery and pickup of compressed gas cylinders serving local and regional business customers from our North Andover, MA plant. Operating a company-provided tractor trailer, the driver is responsible for loading, unloading, and returning cylinders while ensuring full compliance with safety regulations. As the face of AGPI, this role requires frequent customer interaction and demands professionalism, strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport and deliver industrial gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and CO2. Operate microbulk trucks for bulk liquid tank transfers and manage cylinder rack deliveries at customer sites.
- Manually load/unload cylinder racks, palletized goods, and heavy cylinder tanks (up to 75–100 lbs) using hand trucks or pallet jacks.
- Properly placard vehicles, maintain HAZMAT shipping papers, and adhere to DOT/TC regulations for hazardous materials.
- Conduct rigorous pre-trip, inter-trip, and post-trip inspections. Ensure proper handling of empty and full cylinders to prevent accidents.
- Act as the primary interface with customers, resolving inquiries and obtaining signatures. Maintain accurate logs and documentation for all deliveries and returns.
- Perform local routes (approx. 10–12 stops daily) accurately following scheduled routes.
- Maintain a positive, “can-do” attitude.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks and duties as assigned.
Driver Requirements and Qualifications
- Valid Class B Driver’s License with HAZMAT and tanker endorsements (Class A preferred).
- Experience in rack trucks, microbulk, bulk, and cylinder handling preferred.
- No moving violations, DUI, or DWI convictions within the past 7 years.
- Valid DOT medical certificate.
- Certificate from an accredited truck driving school and completion of Entry Level Driver Training program required if less than one (1) year of experience operating trucks with GVW over 26,000 lbs.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Ability to transport hazardous cargo and drive for up to 8 hours per day, with flexibility for extended hours as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Skilled in maneuvering and parking large trucks.
- Alert, focused, and detail-oriented with strong stress management skills.
- Dependable, disciplined, and resourceful.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
