Overview

The Associate Director of Briefings and Research transforms volumes of information into actionable insights. Their mission is to ensure that the president enters every engagement with complete situational awareness and an unshakeable strategic edge. To achieve this, the Associate Director delivers timely executive briefings, summaries, and reports that deepen understanding, transfer institutional knowledge, and cultivate strategic alignment. The Associate Director is responsible for the full briefings work stream. They surface the people, ideas, topics, and trends worth knowing about; they work with colleagues across NYU to quickly source high-quality context; they conduct their own research and leverage public information (such as media, white papers, and books) to supplement internal sources; and they distill their findings into clear, concise, and useful reports. The Associate Director also develops and nurtures trustworthy channels that provide access to up-to-date information — including shared data hubs, dynamic dashboards, and reliable professional contacts. This role serves as an indispensable engine behind leaderships ability to make decisions and engage meaningfully with people and issues. Success in this role is defined by delivering briefings that help the president feel prepared for the week ahead, producing summaries that illuminate connections and spark the right conversations, and creating an institutional knowledge base that compounds in value.

Responsibilities

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

Required Experience:
5+ years Experience in business intelligence, policy analysis, executive communications, media/journalism, high-level fundraising, or management consulting—with demonstrated experience synthesizing complex topics into executive summaries.

Preferred Experience:
5+ years Experience in executive offices, supporting C-suite executives or government leaders, or in management consulting.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive and strategic issues and manage relationships effectively, including the capability of building trust with top executives and senior leadership. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organization, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, high profile environment. Ability to communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Drive tools (Docs, Slides, Sheets). Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Proficiency in data synthesis and experience with data hubs, dashboards, CRMs, or knowledge-management systems. Familiarity with higher education governance, current trends, and institutional dynamics.
Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $105,000.00 to USD $125,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
