Prep Girls Hoops (Basketball) Event Operations Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Prep Girls Hoops (Basketball) Event Operations Manager based in the United States.

This is a high-impact event leadership role focused on delivering exceptional experiences across a national girls basketball event portfolio.
You’ll own event operations from planning through execution, balancing athlete and coach experience with financial performance.
The role offers significant autonomy to shape processes, improve NPS, and elevate the overall event experience.
You’ll recruit, develop, and lead event directors, contractors, and interns while building a high-performing operations team.
Success requires strong cross-functional coordination, disciplined project management, and a hands-on approach to solving challenges.
You’ll work in a fast-paced sports environment where your decisions directly influence thousands of athletes and coaches.
The position is ideal for an energetic operator who combines a passion for girls basketball with strong business and leadership skills.

Accountabilities
  • Event Experience: Take ownership of the year-round event experience, continuously improving tournament execution, athlete and coach satisfaction, and NPS performance.
  • Event Operations: Lead the planning and execution of tournaments, ensuring operational checklists, timelines, standards, and brand expectations are consistently met.
  • Talent Management: Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and manage event directors, contractors, interns, and other event personnel.
  • Staff Performance: Evaluate event staff following tournaments, provide feedback, and identify opportunities to strengthen performance and execution.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate across departments to align event planning, brand initiatives, operational requirements, and key deliverables.
  • Financial Performance: Own event economics by monitoring costs, margins, and quality metrics while identifying opportunities to maximize profitability.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple events, priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of execution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify operational challenges and implement scalable processes, tools, and practices that improve efficiency and the overall event experience.
  • Relationship Management: Build strong relationships with event directors, officials, facilities, partners, and other stakeholders within the basketball ecosystem.
  • Travel & On-Site Leadership: Travel approximately 15–20% of weekends, primarily during peak event seasons, to support tournament operations and ensure successful execution.
Requirements
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience managing or operating high-profile events, tournaments, sports programs, or comparable operations.
  • Basketball Knowledge: Genuine passion for and strong knowledge of competitive, year-round girls basketball, particularly youth or high school environments.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and manage event directors, contractors, interns, or similar teams.
  • Ownership Mindset: Self-directed, energetic, and comfortable taking full responsibility for outcomes without waiting for detailed direction.
  • Project Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple events, checklists, teams, deadlines, and cross-functional priorities simultaneously.
  • Business Acumen: Comfortable managing financial performance, costs, margins, and quality metrics, with a focus on profitable event execution.
  • Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment, responding to unexpected challenges, and adjusting plans while maintaining quality.
  • Technology: Familiarity with Google Workspace is expected; experience with Asana and Slack is a plus.
  • Preferred Experience: Familiarity with EOS/Traction methodologies, youth or club sports, athlete recruiting, or an established network of event directors, officials, or sports facilities is advantageous.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. U.S. citizenship is required for this position at this time.
  • Travel: Must be willing and able to travel on approximately 15–20% of weekends during peak event seasons.
