This role sits at the core of building and scaling highly reliable, distributed backend systems that power mission-critical open-source and enterprise-grade infrastructure. You will design and evolve large-scale multi-tenant services with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. The work involves deep technical ownership across complex backend systems, including latency optimization, fault tolerance, and multi-region availability. You will collaborate closely with other senior engineers to simplify system complexity while continuously improving developer experience and platform robustness. This is a high-impact role where your decisions directly influence system performance, stability, and scalability at global scale. The environment is highly collaborative, engineering-driven, and deeply committed to open-source innovation. It is ideal for engineers who thrive in distributed systems and enjoy solving deeply technical infrastructure challenges.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating core backend services that support highly scalable and reliable distributed systems.

  • Design and implement core backend service features for large-scale distributed systems and multi-tenant architectures
  • Develop highly concurrent, reliable, and performant systems with strong emphasis on scalability and fault tolerance
  • Provide comprehensive testing coverage, including unit, integration, and performance testing for owned features
  • Define and maintain observability standards, including logs, metrics, alerts, dashboards, and runbooks for production readiness
  • Document architectural decisions, system behavior, and operational procedures to ensure maintainability and clarity
  • Improve system reliability, latency, and availability across multi-region environments
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design solutions that reduce complexity while improving developer velocity
  • Support production systems through operational ownership and continuous performance optimization
  • Contribute to the evolution of enterprise-grade and open-source backend infrastructure
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in distributed systems engineering, with strong expertise in concurrency, scalability, and production-grade backend development.

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong focus on backend or distributed systems
  • Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems
  • Strong hands-on experience writing concurrent production-grade code
  • Deep understanding of system reliability, fault tolerance, and scalability engineering
  • Experience with high-performance data systems such as Elasticsearch or ClickHouse
  • Strong ability to analyze system behavior and improve performance, stability, and scalability
  • Proven ability to work in complex, production-critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience with Go or similar backend programming languages is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with cloud or infrastructure environments is highly valued
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical direction across teams
Benefits:
  • Estimated salary range: $212,000 – $286,000 USD depending on experience and location
  • Equity participation in a high-growth, open-source driven organization
  • Unlimited PTO plus 12 holidays and 2 floating holidays
  • 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions
  • Annual stipends for home office setup, internet, meals, and professional development
