Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for the pharmacy benefit management business, providing strategic counsel to executive leadership on regulatory, contractual, and operational matters.
  • Interpret and advise on state and federal healthcare regulations, including PBM laws, HIPAA, ERISA, and emerging legislative developments while helping the business manage legal and compliance risks.
  • Structure, draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements that support business growth and protect organizational interests.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify legal risks, develop practical solutions, and support strategic initiatives across multiple business functions.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries, assist with interactions involving Departments of Insurance, and support compliance-related investigations and litigation matters.
  • Provide legal support to additional business units as needed while overseeing outside counsel and contributing to department-wide legal initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Lead special projects, mentor and develop legal team members, promote consistency within legal operations, and foster a collaborative, high-performing legal function.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience supporting a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) or health insurance carrier.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations affecting PBMs, including state PBM regulations, HIPAA, ERISA, and related federal and state compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex commercial contracts and legal agreements.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
  • Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and support fast-paced business operations with sound legal judgment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing legal initiatives, collaborating across departments, mentoring team members, and overseeing outside counsel.
  • High ethical standards, professional integrity, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to solving complex business and legal challenges.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual base salary ranging from $240,000 to $259,000, based on experience, qualifications, and location.
  • Fully remote work arrangement within the United States, with occasional travel for meetings, client engagements, conferences, and company events.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage featuring a nationwide Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan with employee-friendly cost sharing.
  • Company-paid basic life insurance, AD&D coverage, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, and flexible spending account (FSA) options.
  • Employer-matched 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Industry-leading paid time off (PTO) program.
  • Comprehensive mental health and wellbeing resources.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture with strong opportunities for professional growth and career advancement.
