Middle School Track Assistant Coach
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
POSITION TYPE: Part-Time, Seasonal
REPORTS TO: Middle School Track Head Coach & Athletic Director
GRADE LEVELS: 7th & 8th Grade
POSITION SUMMARY
The Middle School Track Assistant Coach supports the development of student-athletes by assisting with skill instruction, team culture, and game preparation while fostering Christian character, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This coach works alongside the Head Coach to help athletes grow in their understanding of the game and prepare for continued participation within the Sioux Falls Lutheran School volleyball program.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: Prior coaching or competitive experience (preferred)
- Certifications: First Aid/CPR; background check clearance required
- Skills: Strong knowledge of track and field fundamentals, strategy, and teaching techniques
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Spiritual & Community Representation
- Represent God, Sioux Falls Lutheran School, and yourself in a Christian manner at all times.
- Serve as a role model of Christian character, leadership, and integrity for student-athletes.
Coaching & Instruction
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting well-structured practices that focus on skill development, strategy, and teamwork.
- Teach advanced techniques, game awareness, and sport-specific fundamentals appropriate for middle school athletes.
- Provide individualized feedback and mentorship to support athlete growth.
Competition & Support
- Assist with coaching during all middle school meets.
- Support implementation of game plans and strategies established by the coaching staff.
- Help with practice setup, equipment management, and other team needs as assigned.
Team & Culture Leadership
- Foster a team environment grounded in respect, accountability, and Christian values.
- Encourage personal responsibility, effort, and positive relationships among teammates.
Communication & Relationship Management
- Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, parents/guardians, and coaching staff.
- Facilitate open dialogue about expectations, progress, and team goals.
Safety, Records & Compliance
- Promote safe participation in all activities.
- Comply with school and league guidelines, including eligibility and attendance policies.
Collaboration & Growth
- Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletic Director to ensure consistency in coaching philosophy and program goals.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to strengthen coaching practices.
Commitment to 3D Coaching Values
- Participate in Coaching Huddles twice per month.
- Prepare 3D goals and strategies for your athletic program.
- Assess results and learning with support and accountability.
