Job Description

Description:

Burloak Technologies is a leader in the additive manufacturing industry and provides engineering services for additive manufacturing, materials development, high precision CNC machining and metrology. Burloak Technologies works with the most innovative companies in the space, aerospace, automotive and industrial markets to rapidly transition their most challenging part designs to be additively manufactured at scale. Now, we are hiring a full-time Quality Technician II to join our team at our state-of-the-art Oakville facility. The Quality Technician II is responsible for ensuring that products meet quality standards throughout the manufacturing process by conducting inspections, programming CMM equipment, and maintaining accurate documentation in compliance with industry regulations and specifications. This position reports to the Quality Manager.

Requirements:

CMM Programming and Operation

• Program basic inspection routines for machined and additively manufactured components using Zeiss Calypso CMM software, developing measurement strategies that accurately reflect GD&T requirements and part geometry.

• Operate Zeiss CMM systems to perform dimensional inspections in accordance with quality system procedures, ensuring results are accurate, repeatable, and fully documented.

• Review engineering drawings and model-based definitions to determine appropriate datum structures, feature sampling strategies, and measurement approaches prior to programming.

• Maintain and update CMM programs as part designs are revised, ensuring all inspection routines reflect the current approved engineering release.

Inspection and Quality Assurance

• Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on machined, additive, and post-processed components using CMM, hand measurement tools, and optical systems as appropriate to the inspection plan.

• Verify conformance of components against engineering specifications and quality standards, applying GD&T concepts accurately throughout the inspection and evaluation process.

• Initiate and document non-conformance reports for out-of-specification conditions, providing clear descriptions of defects to support timely disposition and corrective action.

• Adhere to AS9100D/ISO 9001:2015 quality procedures and internal work instructions at all stages of the inspection process, ensuring full compliance and traceability.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and complete records of all inspection activities, measurement results, and quality findings in accordance with company documentation standards and quality system requirements.

• Prepare and manage inspection data using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, ensuring reports are clear, accurate, and delivered in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.

• Apply basic statistical process control techniques to monitor inspection data, identify trends, and flag process performance concerns to the Quality Manager and relevant teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to communicate inspection findings, support non-conformance resolution, and ensure quality requirements are understood and addressed throughout the production process.

• Provide clear and timely updates to production and engineering teams on part conformance status, flagging concerns promptly to minimize production impact and support informed decision-making.

• Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute quality perspective to discussions on process improvement, first article activities, and new program launches.

Team Support and Professional Attributes

• Train and support junior quality technicians in CMM operation, inspection techniques, GD&T application, and quality documentation practices, contributing to the overall capability of the quality team.

• Carry out additional duties as directed by the Quality Manager, supporting the quality function’s broader objectives and responding flexibly to changing production and program priorities.

• Maintain a high standard of workmanship, attention to detail, and documentation discipline in every aspect of daily work, reinforcing a quality-first culture within the team and across the production floor.

Requirements:

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of related experience in a custom machining or precision manufacturing environment, with demonstrated hands-on involvement in CMM programming and quality inspection activities.

• Proficiency in Zeiss CMM systems and Calypso software is required.

• Proficient in GD&T concepts, with the ability to accurately interpret and apply geometric tolerancing requirements from engineering drawings in a manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency in using a range of inspection tools and measurement equipment including hand gauges, calipers, micrometers, and surface measurement instruments.

• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D quality systems and documentation standards.

• Knowledge of optical 3D scan metrology software such as Zeiss ATOS and Keyence optical systems is considered an asset.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for data management, documentation, and communication.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate clearly across engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.

Industry & Material Knowledge

• Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-precision manufacturing industries is preferred.

• Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes and the inspection considerations associated with metal AM components is considered an asset.

• Familiarity with AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification requirements and the documentation expectations of regulated aerospace supply chains.

Education and Professional Attributes

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required; post-secondary education in quality, metrology, engineering technology, or a related discipline is considered an asset.

• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and measurement accuracy, with a consistent commitment to producing inspection results that are reliable, traceable, and well-documented.

• Manages time and priorities effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment, responding flexibly to shifting inspection demands and program requirements.

• A dependable team contributor who communicates openly, supports colleagues, and takes ownership of assigned responsibilities through to completion.

• Committed to continuous learning and professional development, actively seeking opportunities to expand technical knowledge in metrology, inspection methods, and quality systems.

• Upholds a high standard of workmanship, documentation discipline, and professional conduct in every aspect of daily work, contributing to a quality-first culture across the organization.
