Job Description

Position Description:

Why South Florida State Hospital?

South Florida State Hospital is a modern behavioral health campus dedicated to serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness who require specialized treatment when community-based alternatives are no longer effective. Unlike traditional institutional settings, our campus was intentionally designed to promote dignity, recovery, and quality of life.

Psychiatrists at SFSH practice in a therapeutic environment where treatment extends beyond medication management and symptom stabilization. Individuals served reside in residential-style living areas designed to support comfort, independence, and recovery, including specialized accommodations for geriatric and medically complex populations.

At the heart of the campus is our innovative Town Center, built around a treatment mall philosophy that encourages choice, engagement, and meaningful participation in recovery. Individuals served have access to life skills training, educational programming, addiction services, spiritual support, recreational activities, a library, beauty salon, dining areas, and community gathering spaces that foster social connection and personal growth.

This unique model allows psychiatrists to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team while witnessing long-term progress and recovery outcomes in a setting that prioritizes person-centered care, clinical excellence, and hope.

In this role, you’ll oversee admissions, treatment, and discharges while guiding a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional, person-centered care. From conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments to prescribing treatments and providing crisis intervention, you’ll ensure individuals receive the highest quality of care.
